Mk1 Skoda fabia vrs starting rough

Featured Replies

HELP! When I start the car, it’ll cut straight out unless I hold the key full turned and even then it’ll misfire and run rough for about 10 second and then idle fine. While driving it won’t give me full power until you hold the peddle down for about 5 seconds (not a turbo issue) I’ve plugged it in and it’s come back with fault codes (19561 and 18027) no idea what’s going on with it. Please help

All 4 glow plugs are completely goosed.

They do rely on a bit of glow, I can't see it causing that much of a problem. That 19561 error could be a factor, I could be wrong, but I think that's the anti shudder valve that operates when the engine is shutting down? It might also be worth checking your injection timing, if your diagnostic kit has the ability.

Have you done an EGR delete?

N239 is the Anti shudder valve

Yeah, that fault code relates to the anti-shudder valve.

That's just the name of it not the fault code.

Didn't say it was 🤔 just confirming that N239 referred to in the 19561 fault code is known as the anti-shudder valve as  @StevesTruck suggested

Cheers lads, it can be an issue of lining up what the diagnostics system calls something, versus what a part is commonly known as.

I'd probably be having a look at the anti shudder valve itself then to make sure it's re-opening reliably when you go to restart the engine. It might just be that it's clogging up on crap if the EGR needs a clean and that it's taking a few goes to fight past that.

Fair enough :)

I'm going to throw in a complete curve ball ! Now I could be wrong but a friends B5 1.D PD Passat had fuel supply issues and displayed the same symptoms as you. Now it was a long time ago but it was traced to low tandem pump outlet pressure.

Its very time consuming to try and troubleshoot but be methodical and do one part at a time. Its a PITA but keep an open mind and rule everything in or out no matter how daft you think it is !!

We would all like to know what the outcome is !!

Yeah it has an egr delete, wasn’t done in my ownership

That would explain the anti-shudder valve fault then, as the delete does away with the part.

Any chance the fuel system could be pulling in air somewhere?
