Superb 280 Front Brakes replacement ?

Recommended Posts

That's not a bad price David. Long story but I had to replace my front discs & pads - then the rear 12 months later - each time I paid my local trusted garage £500. I have a 2007 Octy, but I'm guessing that the Superb won't be far off the £500 mark - so £560 sounds very reasonable. Get the rears checked, as it could be cheaper to get them done now for a bit extra - instead of what I did paying £500 extra.

Hope that helps.

Jay.

Genuine parts alone for me cost about £350 - They are pulling your pants down at that price.

1 to 1.5 hours tops!

Personally id fit Pagid if you want to go the aftermarket route - Parts for these are around £240

Has anyone recommendations for Front Discs and pads ?   been quoted £560 by an indy to replace them with VW parts.

2018    280 4x4

The 340mm front brake discs are a TRW brake system.

Original TRW GDB2114 front brake pads are £45.14 on amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TRW-GDB2114Â-Brake-Pad-disc-brake/dp/B06XYN4994/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2MBFU1750T57M&keywords=trw+gdb2114&qid=1650993835&sprefix=trw+gdb2114%2Caps%2C289&sr=8-1

The front brake pads are also listed on autodoc

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/trw/11288579

For comparison, Pagid front brake pads are £92.18 at Halfords and aren't as good as the OEM TRW brake pads.

https://www.halfords.com/car-parts?cgid=297008&pid=101444228

For front brake discs, ATE are one of the best. When Skoda don't specify TRW brakes they usually specify ATE brakes. The benefit of ATE over TRW brakes discs is that ATE have a coated finish so are less prone to rusting than the cheaper painted TRW finish.

ATE front brake discs 24.0130-0225.1 (£146.69 for two)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384790724108?hash=item5997507e0c:g:FG4AAOSwXZ9ht-D6

Like the front brake pads, the front brake discs are also listed on autodoc

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/7013633

So that's a grand total of £191.83 for parts, and labour shouldn't be more than 1 hour at perhaps £72/hour including VAT...making a grand total of £263.83.

I always fit EBC to my own vehicles.
been using them for more years than I’d like to admit. Only ever had one issue with pad material wearing away in less than 1000 miles on brand new brakes. Never found out why, and never happened again.
In fact, I’d have bought some already for my current vehicle if they ever had any in stock for it.
good brakes though, and no squealing.

Skoda use the same rear brake pads for both the 300mm rear brake discs and the 310mm rear brake discs. They are both ATE brake systems.

I would rather fit ATE brake pads to an ATE brake system knowing that they are precisely made to fit.
