Electrical errors after installing new battery

Featured Replies

Hi there,

My battery went flat after a 4 week holiday and now I have various issues since installing a new battery. I had the usual self-clearing errors such as TPMS etc etc, but now I am left with the following gremlins:

1) I can't adjust passenger side mirror

2) I can only raise and lower the passenger side windows using the drivers side controls (both passenger and drivers windows open synchronously when drivers button used)

3) If i push the window lock button the driverside i get a "Fault: electric child lock error"

4) If i try to check drivers door control unit in OBDEleven it cannot connect even though the other control modules are fine.

I have looked at the relevant fuses  - i.e

25

Control unit for central locking front door right, power windows - left

39

Control unit for central locking front door - right, power windows -front and rear right

42 Control unit for central locking rear door - left, right, headlight cleaning system, windscreen wipers

and all these fuses are fine.

Any suggestions?

Was the battery management system re-coded so it knows there's a new battery?

No it wasn't. The prev time I installed a battery I didn't have to. How do I reprogram? I couldn't see in the manual.

I took the car to the battery shop and they plugged in their OBD machine and said it was recognised correctly. I'm wondering now if there is a fault that caused the original battery to drain etc.

I just posted some issues recently onto the forum believing it to be due to a recent flat battery.  But the battery shop has checked the battery install with their OBD device and they think it is not a battery problem.

My issues are:

1) I can't adjust passenger side mirror

2) I can only raise and lower the passenger side windows using the drivers side controls (both passenger and drivers windows open synchronously when drivers button used)

3) If i push the window lock button the driverside i get a "Fault: electric child lock error" - this bcan beep and beep and become very annoying

4) Boot will not open with either fob or button

I ran some OBDII diagnostics with the following results:

Other modules have similar "Databus missing message" errors.

But even strangely I cannot connect with the drivers side control module - i get the error  "communication error with control module".

Thanks for your assistance.

You need to tell the system it has a new battery. Usually by changing the serial number by one digit. If you don't then it will charge it like it's the old one (low rate of charge) and the new one won'tike it.

OBDeleven or VCDS is the normal tool for this.

Look for broken wires between chassis and each door, starting with the most used one.

To add to my comment above, don't always trust a place to have coded it correctly just because they plugged in a gadget and said "yes". There are quite a few reports on here (and elsewhere) of Halfords/Kwik fit type places not doing the coding.

This is confusing as you have two similar threads running.

Have you told the battery management system there is a new battery as suggested in the other thread?

Now merged. 👍

I checked on obdeleven and it looks like the shop machine definitely changed the adaptatiom information.  I'll attach the battery pictures and the coding information. Screenshot_20220430-071303_OBDeleven.thumb.jpg.3fc90d32d8a1d40d6dd9eb38a1e3da61.jpg

I am wondering now if this is due to a faulty driver's door module. I'll take off the door card and check the wiring but maybe I'll buy a second hand module and see if that fixes things. Obdeleven can't communicate with it as per above post so if wires are intact this may be the next part to check.

I noticed in your picture that the battery technology is incorrect. It comes from the factory preset as " fleece " for an agm battery and I've read elsewhere that fleece should be the correct setting. I'm not sure what the difference is between fleece and binary-AGM and I don't know if that gives any cause to your issues but I've read in many forums that fleece is the VW term for standard agm batteries in european cars. I would definitely physically check the serial number on the battery itself to see if it matches your picture just in case your old battery was a Varta and the new battery hasn't been programmed properly.

Hello Bigade,

Are you still updating your speed camera database these days?
