Octavia 110 02 plate cuts out

Featured Replies

Heres another strange one, this evening our lass driving the octy home pulls up at lights sets off ok into 2nd gear accelerates engine cuts out wont restart engine turns over like theres no compression rings me for a tow gets there 20 mins later trys starter to hear this fast turn over engine starts ok and runs fine drives home with no faults any ideas?

Relay 109 seems to be a common cause of these faults from what I read.

Try a search for that

If it isn't the realy the other more common one will show an overboost error in the diagnostics when they are read.

This is sticking turbo vanes and the only way to fix this from what I have read is to replace the turbo or take it off, clean up the vane and it's operating mechanism, put that cover back on and put the turbo back on. IIRC people on here were quoting about £1000 for a replacement turbo, but you will find it cheaper elsewhere and a fix would require cleaner and some time.

Hope it's relay 109, there is a grey and a black one, but i can't remember which type are the duffers and which ones the uprated part.

I had this problem in december, same car - exact same symptoms, dealer said new turbo needed !!!

After not using it for a few days it started and ran ok and since then has been fine but i give it a good rev every week as i do mainly town driving and use the low end torque alot which doesn't clear the soot out.

Imho I would suggest you give it a run into the higher end of the rev range (4k) - loads of *rap comes out of mine when i do and i think it is a build up of this on the vanes that causes the sticking problem.

hope you sort it.

try this link - shows turbo workings and all the build up of soot etc

Sticking turbo vanes wont cause the car to stop running or cut out.

Id put money on the 109 relay as a start.
