Slight noise when accelerating and turning left

2022 UK sportline 1.5 petrol dsg. 3k miles.

 

If the steering is pointing left when accelerating there’s a noticeably different noise. Hard to describe but sounds more mechanical (rotational) than I’d expect. Admittedly it’s a tiny noise, wife can’t hear it, but now I can I hear it all the time….!

 

Anybody else noticed the same thing?

A sort of faint metallic scraping?

If so, mine does it - always has, but it hasn’t got any worse in 4.5 years / 18,000 miles.

Yes I think that’s it. Sounds like you can hear whatever joint is under more pressure during the acceleration manoeuvre. Glad to hear it hasn’t got worse for you. Same engine?

I've noticed the same issue on my Kodiaq 150 HP DSG.

Some had changed the gearbox pad.

I had to change flywheel to get rid of the noise.

Flywheel🥵? on another topic on this forum, someone had to replace only the gearbox mount and another just aligned it. Did this grinding noise  produced deterioration on the flywheel?

I suppose the flywheel was so loose that it touched the body of the gearbox, therefore the grinding noise. Mostly, when releasing the throttle or turning to left.

I was under the impression that the newer engines including the petrols had dual mass flywheels with pendulum weights.  If Youtube is to be believed these can be quite noisy and rattle in certain circumstances.  Could it be partly that?

Dual mass flywheels are from satan. I have third flywheel, car has done 260 000 km. First went at 60 000 km. No symptoms, just the dealer changed it under warranty at regular maintenance. Second - what a symptoms! Started just like that.

I don’t get grinding noise when releasing throttle, it’s very specific to turning left and accelerating. It’s quite subtle - my wife can’t hear it but it’s bugging me as the car is brand new.

Does anybody has access to the VAG Database?   TPI 2064801/7  should solve the noise issue but i'm curious for the details.   

This appears DSG related and has been mentioned quite a few times over the years.

Just wanted to bump this one, and see if anybody had made progress? Mine is going in next week for someone to take a listen to. The noise hasn’t gotten any worse, but it’s certainly there. Any case of the steering wheel been turned to the left, and accelerating, and you can hear a distinct noise of some sort of friction. 
 

and does anybody know what that TPI is above?

@Doombar I still don't know the details of that TPI but i do know that the replacement of the motormount did remove the noises on my Kodiaq. 

 

 

The dealer has replaced a couple of parts but still noisy…. They have it for a few weeks now…. Saying it is characteristic of the car! Will mention the mount change, thanks

Which parts did they change?

Bearings on drive shafts, and couple of seals (not sure which as they couldn’t tell me)..   they are very poor in assistance/attitude, Marshall’s Northampton.

So quick win! €70,= for the mount and a sunny sunday morning on the driveway and fixed it myself.

Hello, I have a 2020 Kodiaq DG381, which has the grinding noise when turning left. Skoda Morecambe diagnosed the fault at a front left wheel bearing, as did Skoda Bolton, who spent two weeks and £1400 the dealerships explained they had spent £1400 without fixing the fault and as they only received payment when the fixed the problem “had to draw a line in the sand” referring my to Skoda UK, as they are normally able to liaise between the warranty and the dealership to resolve these issues. Having no courtesy car and being unable to use public transport due to my disability I left the car with the dealership, as I was informed it would only be a few days before Skoda UK contacted me! After 15 days of which I was chasing on a daily basis, Skoda UK started its investigation!!! After another 3 weeks of chasing where Skoda UK hadn’t event contacted the dealership I demanded the case be refereed to the Case Managers manager. The next chap, which is whilst I’ve been dealing with the servicing manager, explained the dealerships master technician had stated it was a polite way of saying it was a characteristic of the vehicle, which is strange given Skoda replaced a wheel bearing and spent two weeks and half a tank of diesel trying to work out what the fault was. I offered to pay for the gear box mount to be changed if they agreed that if it resolved the fault they would pay for the fault under warranty, which they explained they were unable. Whilst my vehicle was still under warranty I’ve spent 7 month trying to get this resolved and not my vehicle is out of warranty. Skoda UK explained they would allow the vehicle to be checked at another dealership, where they would cover the diagnosis fee, but that any repairs wouldn’t be covered as the car was out of warranty and I handed booked the vehicle in with the next dealership before the end of the warranty, despite the Bolton dealership trying to resolve the issue as it was booked in before the end of the warranty. However, the next dealership would have to follow the step by step procedures as instructed by Skoda UK which means unless the next dealership is willing to go further and spend further they are unlikely to get to the fault. 

Moving on the mechanic explained the DG500 has a fault which is fixed by replacing the gearbox mounting, a TPI, but even though the mechanic felt replacing the engine mount he was unable as he had to follow Skoda UK step by step instructions, which included draining the oil, noise testing, etc.

When i dropped the vehicle off it had slightly under half a tank of diesel but when i picked it up the range was 5 mile.

Ive asked to go to the ombudsman which Skoda UK have supplied the relevant information, which is massively incorrect, wrong dealership along with what they’ve done and what they reported. 

Skoda UK and the dealership are now saying they informed me it was a characteristic of the car after two weeks and that I was reluctant to accept this so left my vehicle at the dealership, which is frankly lies, as the dealership had said nothing of the sort other than to contact Skoda UK.

 

I hate the car now so have decided to sell but don’t want to drop this **** on anyone else, so I’ve  I dropped the car of with an independent VW/AUDI/PORSCHE/SKODA  garage yesterday to see if they are able to resolve the fault which, in there opinion (having test driven hundreds of these) isnt a characteristic of the car. 

 

Additionally, a specialist solicitor I’ve just employed commented on the fact if a dealership spends two weeks and £1400 trying to find the fault that it cant be a characteristic of the car as they would have known on driving the vehicle and as such wouldn’t have spent £14000 trying to resolved the faul.

So is the Gearbox mount replaced or not? And the grinding noise was still there? 

My car is currently with an independent garage who are fitting the part next Thursday. So I will update you all then.
