Steering vibration turning at low speed - 2021 VRS

Featured Replies

Hello to everyone

Picked up a 2021 VRS from Skoda Newcastle about 3 weeks ago, nice car in Gray.  I would appreciate your advice on an issue I’m experiencing.  When driving at low speed, parking / turning at say 5 mph 90% right/left lock the steering vibrates.  Any ideas?

Video wasn't playing, uploaded to youtube instead

Petrol or diesel? Last time I had what you describe it turned out to be a bulge on the sidewall of the tyre on inside.

Mine has occasionally done this…no idea why.

Apologies the car is a petrol.  I’ll get the inner walls checked on Tuesday.

Possibly feeling the front differential?

Maybe, it's a bit disconcerting while moving when it happens.

If it feels almost like a notch or light thump it could be the diff, only noticeable at low speeds at full or close to full lock

Would say it’s neither, I attached a video but I’m not sure if it’s playing correctly via the site.

Can't view video maybe better posting on YouTube then pasting in the link

@parsey83 First ever YouTube upload, I think I'll be using this method from now on https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-8CtcYUiPag

Thanks

I would say this is definitely not normal.  I have mine over a year and a half now and never noticed anything similar.

Exactly, I've had quite a few cars over the years and never experienced this.  The car goes into Skoda for 3 days investigation on the 4th of July.  If they manage to fix it, I'll keep you updated.

Def not normal keep us posted cheers

You would guess it would be diff related.  It could be worth a search for 2021 Golf GTI forums to see if anyone else has the same issue as they are the same engine/diff.  Its always handy to be as informed as possible before the dealer taking a look.

Could be a faulty CV joint on driveshaft or even problem with driveshaft boot (which is why it only occurs near full lock).  If it is a 2021 car then almost certainly a fault since manufacturer as wouldn’t have worn that quick

If it was a 10 year old car then would be wear and tear

Update from Skoda Uk - they have instructed the dealer to replace the DSG gearbox, apparently they are aware of the issue.  As soon as I find out any details I’ll post here.

How can it be the gearbox when it only occurs at 90% right/left lock? Not in a straight line?  I’m baffled.

Hi guys, I have recently purchased a 2020 mk4, 2.0 petrol 242hp VRS, 31k miles and I am also experiencing slow speed steering wheel judder when tuning 90°, mainly into parking spaces. This has happened a few times but I also noticed it was reported on one of the previous owners service sheets but no fault found.

I am coming up to the end of my 30 day warranty with the garage, I did purchase a extended 12 month warranty but would like.to sort this asap. I have reported it again (I reported it on the test drive and when I bought it the technician that looked at the car report it was the lane assist, I always deactivate that now before driving)

Has anyone else had this issue and had it fixed?

Was the DSG gearbox the fault as reported above?

TIA.

I am experiencing this too with my 2021 mk4 vRS. What was the outcome with yours Fookster ?

Hi @llewis6996

It went to a mates garage today and they confirmed the issue but weren't sure if it is the power steering or the gearbox! They have suggested it goes to a Skoda main dealer but I have a service receipt from a main dealer in 02/24 which has the fault on it but the dealer couldnt find the problem!

I've emailed the garage (who are aware of this issue) where I bought it from but they've not emailed back yet.

Does yours also not do it all the time? I've only noticed it on right lock, not (yet anyway!) left lock.

@Fookster

OT, but have you had the VAQ diff serviced on your car?

Hi @Ootohere

Yes, according to the Skoda service record it was done in 02/24

Might be completely off the mark but mine does that this time of year when turning out of my drive - it appears to be just because of the leaves on the drive!

I read on other forums (different makes) that other cars do it and its a trait of the LSD but I was hoping for confirmation of this but I never got it.

Its not been wet or leafy when its occured and like I said, its not all the time 🤷🏾‍♂️

Mine does it pretty much all the time, both right and left at nearly full lock, but it’s only at very low speed , almost just a dip of the throttle so it’s really noticle at certain manoeuvres, pulling out a driveway etc.

it’s exactly what that guys did and the video he posted back near the start of this post. and obviously he said Skoda replaced the gearbox. which is concerning.

I suppose it could be the VAQ diff, mine definitely hasn’t been serviced and it’s just over 3 years old now and about to hit 30K.

The service schedule says 30k for the VAQ and the filters definitely need cleaning, so I have read. Apparently my 'final drive' service was carried out at 22.6k, its done just over 31k now.

There is a VAG specialist near me, I will pop and see them to see if they can offer any advice on this.

The Electronic Power Steering rack is about 2k new!!!!
