Interior fans only working on highest setting.

Featured Replies

For some reason the interior fans only work on the highest setting.

Its a 2015 Fabia, I can't find much info on this issue.

Any advise how be greatly appreciated.

Fan blower resistor pack, possibly.

Anyone any idea why this part is so short lived?

Will be the fan resistor pack, not an uncommon problem.

Good news is the are cheap literally £5-8 and same one fits multiple cars (eg Polo, Audi A1) so easy to get.

Changed one on a roomster, luckily found a you tube video showing how to access it through glovebox and lifting passenger airbag pack.    Hopefully there is one for mk3 Fabia

On the highest setting, it bypasses this unit so fan works.

As others, this is because the 2 fan resistors that provide the slower settings have both blown.

Close, but three, as there are four speeds in total (unless that's another mk3 cost saving):

WTF do you need a resistor for "off"!?

You don't, look again at where they are connected. Perhaps I should have said four non-zero speeds? 😆

Reminds me: There are 3 types of people that can count, those that can, and those that cannot.

Heat generated by the shunt resistors, probably underrated components, combined with a lack of heatsinking, I believe the assembly is potted but could be wrong.

Which would probably account for why the 8 speed (9 with off) thyristor circuit on the climate control models is long-lived.

Perhaps the thread title should be 'Inferior fans only working on highest setting' - but that would be unfair on the fans.

There are four 'speed' settings - quiet, acceptable, noisy, very noisy - they're controlled by how much the front seat occupants can take of the noise.

Fan, not fans, why do so many people use the plural? :wondering:

A missed apostrophe?

I just copied and pasted the thread title and copied also repeated the error.

If you want more I can give you more, and if you want to play I can give you even more. 😁
