Rear Taillight Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've now had my 2019 Superb 3 (facelift) for approx. 2 months now, and I love it. However, on random occasions I get a warning on the dash saying the left taillight is not working - I check it and sure enough it's not working - I'll switch engine off and back on again after a few mins and it's working again. I havn't worked out what the pattern is when it stops - but I have now recorded it not working - with the info from the dash.

I've called the Skoda dealer and without hesitation they've said I'm covered under their warranty - which is great news - so the car is in on Monday to have this fixed - I believe the whole cluster needs replacing as lights are LED.

So, with that booked in - I've started to get another issue - this time the rear parking sensor not working when I put car in reverse - the warning stays on until I drive forward for approx 1 mile then the warning disappears - this has started happening randomly again - but only when I put it in reverse.

My question, is are these 2 things related? - I have recorded both the taillight not working and reverse sensor issue. Just don't want Skoda to try and fob me off with the reverse issue - so thought I'd this community their experiences on this. This is all sounding like an electrical fault, but I'm no expert.

Thanks in advance.

Jay.

Possibly a faulty rear lamp and faulty sensor.

have you by any chance been washing really close to the lamps and sensors with a jet wash of any kind? Just wondering if it’s water ingress?

if not, any kind of rear impact damage?

if none of the above, most likely coincidence

Thanks for the response ApertureS - and the answer is yes - I've been washing my car every week with and without a pressure washer.

I thought the lighting cluster was in a sealed unit, so how could water get in. Anyway, Thanks for this, after Monday (when it goes into Skoda)  - I'll not be using the pressure washer.

As for impact damage - yes again - when I saw the car for sale - the back end was damaged - they did say the whole bumper and sensors would be replaced - which they did. Obviously I tested the sensors and all was working - even for about a week or so, then the intermittent taillight and sensor fault.

I'm hoping Skoda can see what the issue is and fix.

Thanks.

Pressure washer is perfectly fine, its all to do with not forcing water into places it shouldnt be. Keep the pressure washer a distance away.

The issue is that it's had rear end damage that hasn't been repaired properly.

Whatever it is, it’ll be sorted under warranty so that’s great.

Thanks all for your responses. As I say it goes in on Monday - so will give you update next week and let you know what Skoda say was the issue.

Cheers again.

Just a quick update on my situation. So I took the car in - thinking the tail light cluster was going to be replaced......No..... They wanted to see the issue themselves - so as expected when they had the car - the imtermittent issue was not present, and I left the garage....With the same issue.

So, I thought the next time this happens I wouldn't switch the engine off. Luckily this did happen again during office hours and I drove straight to the garage. Bingo - they could now see what the issue was - not sure why the previous visit didn't show up on their plug-in computer.

Anyway, as this was under warranty they agreed to replace the tail light cluster and also found the one sensor that was faulty.

All done now. Was just a little disappointed that the garage could not find the issue first time.

All sort now.

Thanks for all your replies couple months back.

Jay.
