Correct Oil Viscosity for 2017 Fabia 1.0 110ps

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me the correct oil Viscosity for my son's Fabia as the owners handbook isn't clear. I've asked the supplying Skoda dealer who replied with 5w 40s. I'm not convinced this is right. I was expecting the answer to be 0w 20s

Apologies if this has been answered in a previous thread.

Many Thanks

It is not just the viscosity that you want to get correct. The VW oil specification want to be correct as well. This can depend on the age of the car and wether the car is on fixed or variable servicing. Some details here:- https://www.oilspecifications.org/volkswagen.php

Thanks, AG Falco

The Oil is not 0w 20 IV FS for a 2017 1.0 TSI pre GPF 2017.

It is VW 504 00 / 507 00 for fixed or variable servicing.

That is 5w 30 FS III  or even 0w 30 FS III

For Fixed Oil & Filter Servicing intervals 9,400 (10,000) miles / 372 day you can use VW 502 00 which is 5w 40 FS.

.....................................

This is VW 508 00 / 509 00  so 0w20 FS IV after VW started using it in preparation for the WLTP / RDE.  Not backward compatible.

***2015 on causes confusion.***

Thanks chaps. How do I know if my sons car has a GPF as it was first registered in Nov 2017. If it does not have a GPF am i reading the replies correctly in saying it should ideally be either 0w 30s or 5w 30s VW spec 504 00. but could use 5w 40s VW 502.00 if on fixed service interval

To be honest I'm not sure.  The Skoda dealer we just bought the car from confirmed they had just serviced the car with 5w 40s. VW502 00 (they were the original supplying dealer to the previous owner when new) but the car has had 3 services at another Skoda dealer since so I will have to put a call in to them to see what oil was used

Quoting the engine code might help here, just maybe though.

Edit:- like 5W-30 meeting VW spec 504 would work.

The engine code is CHZC. As they supplying dealer has said its just been serviced with 5w 40 VW 502.00 I guess I'll have to stick with that for the next 12 months, however based on the advice above I'll then switch to 0w 30  VW 504.00. I don't think there would be much benefit switching to 0w 20 as my son's car doesn't have a GPF as its a 2017 car
