preventing a flat battery caused by stupidity

Featured Replies

I emphasise that I have not flattened the battery but over the weekend I was running a camping fridge off the cigarette lighter in the boot when driving, and when I stopped I would unlug it to prevent the battery going flat.

I have a gizmo that in my previous car would cut the power to the device when the battery level got too low, so no flat battery.

It doesn't seem to work in this car, but I was wondering if the car already has such a device connected into the system to prevent such an occurrence.

Following this because im going camping this weekend and wondered how much stuff I can charge in the boot without needing to start the car!

seems that no one knows.

I can confirm that running one medium-sized cool box (3.5A, 40W, 12V) for 14 hours is certainly enough to drain a fully-charged battery in an almost-new car to the point where there isn't enough electricity to start the engine in a car park in Inverness - you might be able to extrapolate from that looking at the power ratings of your equipment 😐

Yep EC73LDN is correct - I forgot to disconnect my small cool box recently - next morning the battery was wiped out, nothing in it at all, so I can confirm there’s no inbuilt safety on a 2022 Superb.

The German phrase 'vorsprung durch technik' is usually translated into English as 'progress through technology'

This sprang to mind reading last post.

Considering how many flat battery posts there has been for many VAG cars, it's safe to assume that there is no feature to cut power 🙄

If you take a look at the wiring diagrams, the 12v sockets are connected directly to the battery via a couple of fuses. There is no mechanism for the car to turn them off.

It's impossible to say how long you'll get as it depends on so many factors :)

Weird that the OP battery saver device didn't work...

Once I find time, I will google why it doesn't work, used to work great on my ancient VW
