VRS Theft Risk?

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a new car after having attempted break in to my home, presumably for my Golf GTI.

Octavia VRS Estate seems a good option for me right now, however what's theft like with these, is it much the same as the Golf? Car is parked on a private drive with wheel lock, but I don't want to invite people to attempt breaking in again :)

TIA

I think I can only recall of one being reported on here since being on the forum (2014). Never see them mentioned on FB pages either. Golfs, A3s and Evokes; yes. But not these.

Perfect, thank you - peace of mind.

No problems in the three years I had a vRS (but then it was Sprint Yellow).

We've two GTI's on the drive

If theft is a concern, perhaps one of those anti theft vehicle tracking devices/services?

It looks bad when there are a few instances of theft lined up, but I don't think the Octavia vRS is top of the list of nickable cars these days. (There's a thread about one nicked in 2004. but that's scraping the barrel a bit.)

I think the area you live in has a big effect on how likely you are to get your car stolen, as well as a load of other factors.

Security lighting, dogs, cameras, if there's a mechanical security device (DiskLock or whatever)...the more trouble it is to nick your car, the less tempting a car is to steal.

Now, if you had a Golf R or an RS Focus you might need some sort of Temple of Doom security set up. :D

But bottom line, trust your gut instinct on it.

They are big cars, with room for a lot of swag and yet as fast as a GTI.

Essentially they’re probably less desirable to an average thief, but those after a car for a specific job or who steal for spares are still probably watching.

No matter what list of most stolen cars you look at any year in the UK there are no Skodas,s appearing in the top 10 or even top twenty.

But then all the Skodas models sold in any year in the UK are not much more than the number of just Fiesta or Golfs.

Luck of the draw if some thief takes a fancy to your car to go for a joy ride or take it to break for parts.

Not many will be stealing for ringing a newer Skoda or exporting it.

To understand the risk of any particular car being stolen what we really need to know is the number of that model stolen as a ratio (percentage?) of those actually on the road.

For example, if there are 10 examples on the road and 1 is stolen then that makes it a very high risk, but it would never appear in tables that only show the number stolen.

Given the very small number of reports on here of stolen Octavias I would have to say my assessment of the risk is low.

For 10 years I owned an Audi RS4 Avant which was, at the time, a moderate risk (cars were being stolen and sold on at a profit due to limited supplies) but I never fitted any extra security devices (the data on devices such as Tracker is incomplete as they refuse to state the number of vehicles fitted with a Tracker that are NOT recovered so it's impossible to assess whether they actually reduce the risk) but just took sensible precautions such as parking under street lights when not at home, when at home parking behind another car on the drive, etc.
