Is the Transport Secretary set to introduce a 20mph speed limit for cyclists?

Featured Replies

Hi time that the Tories were behind introducing an ID scheme in the UK where everyone British Citizens or not are required to carry id on them or implanted and have to show it or have it read when ever requested.

This would include all Politicians entering No. 10, the Westminster Estate or anyplace else at any time but especially during lockdowns.

This system will allow traffic police or police or law enforcers to have peoples identification if they request it.

.......................

Recent cases have had Speeding and Dangerous Drivers that killed cyclists jailed for less time than Dangerous Cyclists have been sentenced for causing deaths to pedestrians on pavements or on roads.

Cyclists found guilty of 'wanton or furious driving'.

Cycling on paths and pavements are well covered by the law in England & Wales, and Scotland has laws.

Cycling on the Public Highway and laws & offences are there now and sentencing guidelines are as well.

The careless & dangerous cycling laws exist and I read them last week. Scotland has different from England & Wales & some that cover the 3 Counties of GB, and while reading there was the under 14 year olds can not legally use e-bikes on UK roads.

Not something enforced.

Bicycles do not have Speedos by law or use and construction legislastion, EU, UK or anyplace.  They do not need bells,

but new bikes must come with them.   The NSL and restricted speed limits applies to cyclists.

He will not be Secretary of state for transport in 2 weeks time.

He has nothing to do with Courts or sentencing in Scotland.

The countries that piloted registering bikes did not introduced that.     What people need are hi-viz vests with their personal ID and have to wear them when walking, cycling, scootering e-scootering, motorcycling or anything else they do in public while not in a Motor Vehicle with a Registration.

Micro chip everyone as well and all animals.

Does that mean we’re I to be neither competent nor careful that I couldn’t be accused of dangerous cycling? 😇

Possible without due care and attention if there was an accident proven to be because you were not giving due care and attention.     People neither competent or careful are suggesting changes in law in the UK and newspapers give them spaces to air their stupidity.

Article on RAC news today suggesting:

"the Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has discussed potentially introducing a 20mph speed limit for cyclists."

And how are they going to enforce it? There are already red light cameras but do these allow cyclists to be prosecuted for running red lights? Keep death off the roads, MAKE cyclists use the pavement! The worst offenders are these fast food riders on electric bikes, I clocked a Just Eat rider doing 40mph in a 30 the other day but had to back off for a speed camera and he just sailed on.

Mandatory registration plates and insurance requirement, plus being able to take their bike plus fine them and even stick them in prison.

Perfect example today was a d*ckhead cyclist on a narrow path by the river cycling at speed.

We saw him coming and got out of the way, but he then zoomed up behind a padestrian and slammed the brakes on last moment when the pedestrian didn't hear his horn as he had headphones on. Having narrowly avoided that, the same was repeated a few hundred yards up the path, except this time the pedestrian was a parent with a child in a pushchair and the cyclist just horned and couldn't wait.

If he had hit the child/pushchair in any way or come close to hurting the child I think the parent would have been fully justified in putting the bike in the river.

Still if you come within 1.5 meters of them on a road, they'll be filming you and have the police charge you for being a danger to them. Of course the same doesn't apply to them as pedestrians should get out of their way.

There is a deterrent sold in the shops and on line.  Those bright  plastic things for throwing a ball for a dog.  As you go to throw that ball you can hardly be expected to spot a cyclist coming up quick behind you.   If you happen to have forgotten to take a dog with you that is just how things are.
