My Clutch Doesnt like the cold.

Featured Replies

I've only seen it after a particularly heavy frost or after snow.

I'm currently working on the assumption that if i have to scrape the windscreen' date=' then i need to check the clutch pedal when i get in

Having said that, it was -5C last night and the clutch pedal was ok. Confused? Indeed i am.[/quote']

Happened to mine again today after a frosty night. The whole pedal travel is less, i.e. point of engagement is lower down. After a couple of gear changes it returns OK to the full up position in-line with the brake pedal and then works per normal. Seems like a slave cylinder problem.

Mines OK today as its milder.I'll have a word with my dealer tomorrow about it as I noticed they forgot to reset the service indicator after the 30k "oil change service".

I spotted a couple of posts on SeatCupra.net about a similar sounding fault. Could this be another coil pack type issue ??

Hmmmmmm :scratchch

Why not ask if they would like to book the car in again to check whether they have forgotten anything else they should have done on the service? :(

Dennis,

Can you advise what other things they are supposed to have done at 30k as they told me its just an oil and filter service? I know they should have checked fault memories via Vagcom and reset the service indicator. The book also says check disk pad thickness although they look OK from the outside.

Chris, you can find details of what is included in each service in the Service Schedule booklet provided with your car.

Denis,

Yes, that's where I was quoting from. I don't think they checked the brake pads, certainly not the faulty diags or the service indicator as they did the oil change while I waited in about 15 mins. I suppose I should expect them to do this for the half an hour's labour they charged me. They did let me look underneath at the K&N filter though and evn supplied a torch. Excuse the cynicism.

I will be asking them about the clutch problem and will let you know what they say.

As I have had this problem many times over the last year ot two I think its time to have something done. Thanks for the tip about it likely being the master cylinder and assume the upgraded one is a stock item.

To be sure do you have part no for the upgraded one; what did they change?

Geoff and others,

Had a word with my dealer about the clutch pedal not returning and he volunteered that I need a new Master Cylinder and they will want the car for a few hours as its quite a job. Said the revised design has increased clearances.

I've also had this clutch pedal problem with my vRS on very cold mornings. I'd like to hear how others have got on with their dealers i.e. wrt warrenty, etc. I've had the Blaupunkt Stereo and the indicator relay ('4-way switch') changed under warrenty so far.

My Octavia's clutch pedal sticks near the floor when the outside air temperature is around freezing or lower. The clutch master cylinder is being replaced under warranty when the car goes in for its first service. :)

Just last week my dealer changed the master cylinder under warranty while the car was in for service.

Sticky thing never happenned to me, only the wife - multiple times - and she hardly ever drives the thing :/

I must admit, mine's been ok through the recent cold weather, but as it's due for its first service in a couple of weeks, i'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get the clutch sorted at service time.
