Dont ask 😉

ok, so why take a car for an MOT with no seat fitted..............I am just wondering what computes this to take place ?

Trying to get an MOT on a shed is always tricky, especially when you don't have any idea what you're doing.

@reeky123 If the NSF seat (chair) is not fitted, then neither it nor the NSF seatbelt can be failures.

Statutory seat belt "missing" is a failure in the car MOT manual

It was not failed for the seat missing, just advisory.

You appear to be arguing that you must have seat belts for seats that are physically absent.

I think it's you who's trying to start the argument Ken!

I don’t think your garage likes you

Christ this is a weird one. I'll skip over the obvious issues people have mentioned. I've just had both my track rod ends replaced as well as both inner rods. I couldn't get one of the ends off myself as it was completely seized and wouldn't unscrew so had to buy fresh inner rods and just took it to a garage for it all to be fitted and alligned

Quote from MOT manual (freely available online) "You do not need to test ; a belt fitted with no corresponding seat @

The inspection manual is but I can no longer find a link to the inspectors' manual as I previously could.

"7.1.2. Seat belt fitment and condition

You must check any visible parts of:

  • all seat belts fitted
  • all child seat restraints fitted

You do not need to inspect:

  • a belt fitted with no corresponding seat
  • a buckle or stalk with no corresponding belt

You should lift folded seats to inspect  . . . "

You lot are missing the point, look at the first item in the list, the airbag light is on because the seat belt pre tensioner has been disconnected in order to remove the front seat, the seat belt itself is a red herring.

NTA16 I'm not sure what you mean by inspectors manual. The MOT guide is still available but this really covers the requirements and responsibilities of running an MOT station. The tester's manual specifies what has to be tested, how to test it and the possible reasons for rejection. I think this warrants an advisory note describing the missing components for future reference.

I must admit I missed that point and can see your point in raising your point and now your other point - but that wasn't the point of my post.  Not a red herring (a beloved term of you old hands it seems) but you'd also say 'a tangent' like the tangent made about the missing seat from the opening post about TREs.

I was banging up a link to the open MOT source mentioned and quoted the text as an example of the type of info you can get from the link as some readers won't bother chasing the link or tracking back to the MoT manual. - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles

It was also a bit of give and take as I was hoping someone would give me a route back to the inspectors' manual(?)/forum(?)/website(?).

If you're still reading this far, I'm almost sure you've made a typo elsewhere on headlamp bulb but I'm sure you'd get out of it even though it also included a definite.

Yes thanks thanks that's what I meant, I got my worms mixed up as usual, do you have a link to that?
