Middle Seat Width

Featured Replies

I am looking to upgrade to a Superb soon as I am having issues with largest child in the middle seat with two high back boosters either side of him.

I currently have a Leon and before that had an Octavia Mk 3 (both on lease). The middle seat width of both of these is 21 inches from buckle to buckle. Can anyone let me know the measurement on the Superb please? I am hoping it is a bit bigger so it can accommodate him better.

TIA

I would think it’s around the same distance. One question; why would you use the middle seat and not the ISOFIX fittings on the two main seats for the booster?

I have three kids so the two youngest have high backed boosters on the outer seats while my eldest has just the booster seat but it's too big for the gap in the middle seat so he ends up just sitting on the seat normally and gets the other seats hitting him on journeys. If the middle seat was wider then I could fit his seat in. I don't want a people carrier either but unsure of my options.

Sounds like you need a people carrier.

We had a trip recently where my MIL asked if there was enough space to fit in our car between the kids. Short answer... No.

1 kids seat and 1 booster though instead of your 2 boosters.

Have you looked at kids bench seats? There's a company that does a 3 seater modular thing that goes over a regular car back seat.

My sis-in-law uses one of those triple benches in preference to buying a people carrier. Deffo worth checking out.

I think the buckle to buckle width is too small, the overhang from the big seats will be like sharing with a couple of Rugby Props.

Apparently the C5 Aircross is one of the few non-mpvs that takes 3 isofix width seats on the rear bench

I have tired one of these in my Octavia before but didn't get on with it as I need to take adults in the back as well as to remove the seat was a huge task. I like the Rugby Props analogy!

Thanks for this. I don't really need an isofix in the middle seat but a seat that is a bit bigger than 95% of cars without getting an MPV as don't use the car during the week really. It's just at weekends with all the kids

Ah yes the triple bench is a large old unit.

I'm guessing a roofrack with straps and a fullface helmet for the eldest would get you some kind of Social Worker investigation?

Thanks for this. Very similar to what I have currently.

I’ve always found this to be a strange law personally.

Is it possible to have your eldest sit in the front seat with the booster and the other adult sit in the middle? Ample room for the adult in the middle and no more distracting looking back all the time

I have this issue.  One of the reasons I bought the Superb was that I was hoping there would be enough room for my twins in their car seats and then my older daughter in the middle.  She physically fits but it's not comfortable.

We always use my wife's S-Max when we're all in the car.
