  • You can check out the condition of the DPF using this app by a OBD tool like carista https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applagapp.vagdpf&hl=en_GB&gl=US

  • Very likely the particle filter is blocked re the sign and your mileage as well.

  • Thank you for the reply buddy.

I have a 2015 1.2tsi Rapid spaceback with the exact same issue normally around the 2000rpm mark. Keeps pulling back/juddering any gear any speed.

That sounds much worse than mine was (is, I think it's mildly returned but it doesn't affect drive-ability and I might be imagining) – it was a lull, dip, hesitation more than a significant loss of power. Definitely cured by the (software?) upgrade from the dealer but I can imagine it's 'reprogrammed' itself since. Yes, ignorant driver view, no idea of the tech.  :O)

Hi @Cooper1275, I have the exact same initial symptom as you but in a 2017 Diesel Superb with around 130k. Drives fine all the time, serviced regularly, just recently introduced this occasional blip, which lasts nothing more than a second.

No errors, no warning lights and no juddering before or after. Happens maybe 1, 2 or 3 times per journey, at any point, no hills involved. Can be around town at slow or high speeds, with or without ACC engaged.

Feels a little like an ACC braking intervention... and the radar for that was replaced in the last year.

Concerned this signally something more fundamental, the car is our workhorse and does a good amount of miles around the country so I would like to maintain it, but concerned that it may not even be throwing faults for a garage to see.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks in advance

You will not know if there are Faults logged until you check, or have someone check.

Diagnostics should be done Thursday, and another 300 miles will go on earlier in the week… will go from there.

Oddly the car is sometimes hesitating on starting, just a few seconds, first time from cold. Not checked the battery condition (but I'll ask next time it's at Bourne Motors – Bob and Andrew and Steve love my visits!). Never had it as bad as your “Normally it would do the sudden loss of power (as if someone is pressing the brake pedal hard) 3 times in a row. Kind of jolting the car forward.” …that sounds unsettling. If I was worried the car was going to let me down and endanger lives I'd certainly want it sorted. Hope you resolve it. My situation is just (currently) annoying.

I know you didn’t reply to me, but as the original poster of the issue. I have had both ecu updated (twice) and a dpf, EGR deleted and the problem still persists, I have now resorted to replacing sensors to see if that fixes it.

Good Evening Chaps

Thought I would give you an update.

I didn't want to post too early at the risk of jinxing the situation.

So I've fixed my problem.

It's been 2 months now and not an issue.

I was getting multiple jolts a day some serious some minor.

So I was travelling to work one day and it happened the worse it has since I've owned the car and it actually threw up a fault.

Engine speed sensor.

It didn't indicate whether it was crank or cam sensor so I swapped them both.

Its the best its ever run since I've owned the car so I pretty sure it was a fault that was getting worse over time.

It even starts first time and doesn't stutter which makes absolute sense now.

I hope this helps you sort the issue if your still experiencing it.

I know it might not be the fix to your problems but it's worth a shot for less than £200 if you do it yourself.

Cheers

Josh

I have the same resolution, Crank Sensor. Nothing on the diagnostics but the garage suggested this and I trust them. Car’s travelled well over 1500 miles since, multiple journeys and without incident.

I think for this symptom specifically and more likely on the highly mileage vehicles, there’s a high chance it’s this sensor that needs replacing.

Also, it’s a good warning because if this sensor completely fails, I think you’re likely to not be driving at all.
