Water in passenger footwell

I have had repeated leaks into the passenger footwell of my 2014 Superb II Estate.

It is not fitted with a sunroof.

I have looked at the under-bonnet scuttle area above where the water appears (it seems to come down across the wheel arch carpet). No dampness, leaves etc - all seems well.

I'm guessing I'll have to remove the glovebox to investigate further - can anyone give me any guidance please? I have found a YouTube covering the removal of an Octavia glovebox, but not one for the Superb.

Any help appreciated.

Mike 😎

I removed my Superb glovebox a few years back using the Octavia video as a reference. It's very similar as far as I can recall.

So, I have - eventually (five months after the initial post 😆) - done some investigation of this problem.

To recap - I often get just about a tablespoon of clean (ie not washer fluid or coolant) water sitting on the passenger front floor mat after it has been raining. Occasionally (as in the pic in the original post) it can be more, but it has been very little lately.

I started by removing the pollen filter and blower - both surprisingly easy to do. The blower had obviously had water going through it at some stage and showed rust on some fasteners, so I gave it a good spray with some water dispersant and sprayed the electrical parts with contact cleaner.

Finding nothing obvious underneath the dash, I opened the bonnet and removed the scuttle cover from the passenger side...

Well, this has clearly had a lot of water in it.

What I assume is the alarm module and horn has quite a distinct tidemark...

Look at the corrosion on the case of the ECU 😱

Underneath the alarm module is the grill leading straight down into the blower...

So - the drain on this side must be blocked, allowing water to back up and enter the cabin through the grill - right?

Except that we poured litres and litres of water into the space and watched it immediately drain out through the hole and exit via the wheel arch. Not a drop came into the car...🤔

After scratching my head for a while, I cleaned everything up and reassembled it - except for the scuttle cover. If I come out to the car and there's water on the mat, I'll immediately pop the bonnet and see what that area looks like. It would have to be quite a volume of water (a couple of litres or so) to fill the space sufficiently to come through the bottom seal of the grill (which is definitely the route it is taking - the bottom seal was wet and the top and sides bone dry).

I'll report back if I find a cause...

Had water leaking in on drivers side, took all scuttle panels off to check.
found nothing but filled a hole on passenger side where the wiper would bolt to if LHD.
Recommended reading another thread, it’s in one of your pics but mine had a short bead of silicon to direct water away ( can’t see on your pics)

Mine turned out to be windscreen leaking in with the water running down the A pillar trim

Thanks Snapper. Pretty sure the source of the water is the grill above the blower intake, as the bottom of the gasket was wet. Still mystified by the amount of water required to cause the problem and the apparently functioning drain…🤔

OK - old thread. I put some silicon into the two screw holes ringed, and covered them with duct tape. After leaving the car outside in the elements for four weeks whilst I was out of the country, it looks like this has solved the issue...🤔

Yes I see you’ve sealed these holes

but when I was looking mine it had like a bead of silicone roughly in the area I’ve marked to what I think was to divert water from them left hand drive wiper motor holes

glad you’ve got it sorted

Has the issue stayed away? I have found my 2014 superb leaks in the same place! So I will do what you have done on a dry day (if we have 1 that is) see if I can fix the problem as you have! Thanks for sharing!

I am happy to report that this seems to have cleared the problem completely... 👍
