Good morning all.

 

I wonder if anyone has any advice with regard to my Columbus suddenly changing language for no apparent reason at all, one minute it was on Radio Skye the next, total silence, nothing working.

 

The car did not come with any disks for rebooting etc, I am going to peruse the manual later but I have a long drive shortly and its going to be rather quiet without the radio.

 

Any advice most welcome.

This is typical problem of NAND overstack. You can try to reflash the unit, if doesn't help then NAND must be formatted which requires special tools, either SW (SetConfig) or HW (flash programmer).

May I ask what reflashing means please?

 

If that does not work then is it a main dealer issue? Mine is 2.5 hours away.....

This might help with the change of language on Maxidot. All I've done is Google the German equivalent of the English.

 

1) Somewhere near the bottom of the MxiDot menu, you'll find Settings (Einstellungen). Select this.

2) look for Language (Sprache). Select this and then select English.

 

I hope this works - please report back with progress.

I tried that, a new message comes up and then just freezes.

 

It's asking for the SWL disk, which did not come with the car. I can see my radio settings also, but no sound from them or a cd. I have some long quiet drives ahead! 

 

 

I'm having just the same issues. No rzdio, tgen random button pushing produced German, but still no rsdio. When i went into settings and opted for English i got a message on screen saying (in German) that the desired language is loaded: but that message window has has frozen and cannot be got rid of. Meanwhile no radio, only the parking sensors work. Anyone got any ideas please? Would a reset be a good idea?

I have tried the reset option, just asks for SWL disc, will see if I can find one online.

 

Really not happy paying the asking price for a new head unit but need the radio and HDD music, have never used the satnav since buying it nor the phone option.

 

 

 

 

I tried the reset this afternoon. It is < and > and eject, all pressed at once, isn't  it? It had absolutely no effect. Am I doing something wrong?

 

I can get a sort of radio channel screen (see attached) but nothing on it responds to the press of a finger and the HDD is also unresponsive.

@Carl248 Had a dead radio not that long ago, tried to flash the SW, but in the end had to swap it out with someone one eBay iirc.

 

 

EDIT: update RNS 510 with newer firmware and maps

See if you can follow the first part of this, and get some response enough out of you unit to get image of your Hardware version and current firmware version

Hello guys,

 

I have experienced a similar issue - my screen information display has partially changed to German in all functions, radio, media, nav, parking sensor display, however, I still have full functionality and sound.

 

Doing a DIY update of the Firmware seems a scary proposition in case it corrupts anything.

 

If I were to take this to a dealer or V.A.G. ICE Specialist, does anyone know what kind of cost would I be looking at for an official (warranted) update please?

Did you buy an SWL Disc and install it mate?

 

If so how did it go? Any issues or difficulties?

 

I am experiencing issues with my Columbus unit changing the display to German too, but I am very nervous about doing a DIY update of the firmware in case I mess up the cars software somehow.

 

It would be reassuring to know if anyone has done this and know what their experiences were.

@Spudskodaof the people that have updated MIB1, MIB2 and MIB2.5, they have all had 100% success.

 

The process you can DIY is the same as the dealer/independent will do.

 

Hopefully someone will post back their DIY success for you.

It might pay you to follow that YouTube video I posted above, just to grab the version information out of the unit.

 

I am happy to lookup if there's an update, and then you can decide if you want to grab the file.  Then hopefully someone can chime in with "yeah done that at home, just fine"

SW Version = 3984

Map version = 7918

Can you please confirm which one of these part numbers match for me to be sure.

 

It should be one the bold 3T0.... numbers iirc

At the least, this version is a small bump that can be tried.

There is a possible one with 5xxx version, but not sure if it's 100% compatible.

In short, there's a definitive update to 4xxx version, the 5xxx I cannot be sure will actually work.

Bigger question is have you got the ability to burn an ISO file (image of a CD or DVD) to a CD-R?

 

Without it you are a little blocked in performing the update.

Check laptop, see if it can burn.

 

I can supply ISO for download, or possibly you travel for update.

 

You would also need a stable power supply, so a charger also would be a must.

As varoom mentioned I did have ussues with my columbus in my mk11 superb although mine was the  constant splash screen..after advice I found swl to download off internet.however the unit was making all the right noises whilst trying to do the update but it didn't fix...I ended up finding a great guy off ebay from who I purchased a recon unit with a years warranty for £299...fitted and working then sent my original unit back to the seller and he sent £100 back to my bank..
