Rear door operation.

Featured Replies

I have noticed that my electrically operated rear hatch door switch symbol is showing in red rather than the normal white,

Any suggestions?

The one in the car or the one on the hatch?

You got a photo of what you mean?

if you mean to show it’s open, it’s always been red, that’s always the case

The switch on the hatch has an illuminated symbol of a car with the boot open. This has a bulb within the switch which illuminates the symbol. This has always been a simple white but is now showing red.

The boot /hatch works fine but the change of colour was noticeable.

There is nothing in the Manual about it, or how to change the bulb if needed!

If the boot is open, it shows as red on the cluster, like the doors.

If the boot is closed, it shows as white on the cluster, like the doors.

Maybe ur boot latch sensor/switch is misbehaving, and needs to b replaced.

So you do mean the actual push button on the hatch itself? I’ve never even noticed it’s illuminated!
Anyway, AS can tell you if it can be dismantled, but I’d take a guess that it’ll be a non-replaceable LED in there.

Yes, the actual push switch! But everything seems to be OK.

Funny that the Aussie switches, doors etc show red, mine show white open or closed!!!

Have you set your tailgate to 'Sport' mode? Or is it like ship's lighting - red at night so as not to affect your night vision?

You can only see the switch when the hatch is open!

Some other VAG products have the red hatch closing buttom. The only difference between the red version and white version... is one is red while the other is white.

I guess someone replaced the buttom for you without telling you (during service ect).

I've just been out to check the button on my 2016 hatch, and it's red like it's always been. However, in daylight it looks white until I shade it with cupped hands and then it is clearly red - could it be that simple?

Couldn’t resist, so I just went out and checked ours - it’s red so I’m guessing it  always has been.

For anyone wondering whats inside these - there are 4 wires going in, 2 for the switch, 2 for the illumination, there are no secondary colours or changing of colours as its physically not there.

Sorry, I didn't realise u were referring to the actual button on the boot.

As others have said - it's red.
