Front subframe realignment

Featured Replies

Hi guys, very slightly curbed the drivers side front wheel on my 2019 Octavia vrs petrol manual.Put two new Michelin p-sports on recently and went to get the wheel alignment checked. They couldn’t get the camber right on that side.Spoke to a former Skoda service manager who now works for a different brand and he thinks the front subframe may be out of alignment. Is this a common problem that can be easily rectified and if so any members in west of Ireland recommend someone, thanks in advance

I had a similar issue mate in my 2016 scout. I accepted what they said as it was a big chain tyre fitter and the last thing I wanted them to do was mess on with the subframe.

The guy couldn't even select the right version of my car from the screen and said "it doesn't matter, they are all the same" until his boss told him he needed to chose the right car to get the right adjustments to make.

I figured the subframe was probably set at the factory so must have been in their factory tolerance.

You experience has set mind at rest that it isn't just my car with this diagnosis !

Cheers

See if there's any local motorsport specialist or check with local dealers for a price. Can't imagine it would cost masses, guessing an hours worth of labour and a check on an alignment machine.

Subframe alignment kits aren't too expensive, £100+ and help keep everything straight and in check with no downside other than cost. I would be getting someone who knows what they are doing to align everything and fit it however I don't have any recommendations on garages or specialists.

Subframe alignment kits are a total con and a complete waste of money, the aim is not to align the subframe concentrically within each mounting hole but to align both front and rear axles with each other and the thrust centre line of the vehicle. Ok I know they are not axles as such being independant suspension but once any wishbone adjustments have been made moving the crossmember is akin to moving an axle.

If the aim was to be centred they would have used close tolerances, there is a very good reason why the bolt clearance is like a p***k in a bucket!
