Software Updates Post Warranty Expiration

Featured Replies

Thanks

I phoned Skoda Support. They confirmed that a major OTA update is currently being rolled out. They said that it may take until the end of this year before all vehicles receive the update.

So I shall await an OTA fix but as my warranty expires in a month I have requested that the update is undertaken in the garage service department.

Might be worth also looking at the all-in-one

You get a major and minor service, 2 MOTs, 2 years breakdown cover and 2 years warranty cover for not much more than cost of the services (so warranty is virtually free)

There has been couple of months where there was 20% off, but hasn’t been discounted since last summer.  Perhaps the discounted price was too good to be true.

Just remembered, the assistance and warranty also covers travel to Europe which might be useful if you go abroad and something fails

Wow that's stingy. In Australia Skoda had a 5 year warranty until 2021 and now all cars get a 7 year warranty. In addition to that they've offered 7 years free servicing several times over the past few years.

Unfortunately, we don't get Skoda Connect and they don't distribute updates OTA via WiFi - which the car is clearly capable of otherwise, why have a function that allows you to connect to your home WiFi? That means we have to go to the dealer with a problem before they'll update anything.

I've only just gotten the climatronic module update from September 2021 to fix the climate sync issues. I am at least on version 1941 now too.

I had the OCU (Onboard Communications Unit) replaced - this is what connects the Car to the Skoda servers to provide the data for licensed features every time the car is switched on. It thereby give's functionality to  SOS, Navigation, Users profiles etc.

The OCU dosent provide licensing, otherwise Rest of the World (RW) cars couldn't function.

Your car comes with a list SWaP/FEC (Function Enabling Codes) from factory that it is capable of and a list of codes that are installed/activated. These are stored on the gateway.

The OCU can facilitate you purchasing and activating these codes through the web shop or you can buy physical codes (came in plastic DVD-like cases) that get installed via ODIS.
