better route planner

Featured Replies

I haven't got the car yet, but just playing with apps etc.  Does ....a better route planner....   when you put the make and model in, use Skoda figures or average.  eg Skodas 240miles for the 60kw  or real life averages? to work out if any stops are needed.

I presume its using Skodas figures and doesn't take into account winter etc, but will it adjust as it works out my average speed? = slower = more miles.

Excellent video's done by a forum member.

So better route planner says it's 140miles with 30% left.    =  20kw at 3kwh ish!  = 60 miles   total =200miles on a full charge. much better than i thought as keep reading stories of only 140 miles on a full charge in winter..

I'm just used to fill current car with diesel drive 600 miles fill again, whole different world in an electric car.

If you connect your car with an OBDI dongle, it uses real time consumption from your car. People who do this can opt to share the data with ABRP which they use to build 'real world' average data for ABRP consumption for all cars. So therefore my car as an example the ABRP consumption figure is lower than VW's but a bit pessimistic for my driving style so I find its calculations conservative. I set the consumption figure for me in the ABRP settings. ABRP also takes into account temperature and weather conditions in the settings or via a weather forecast system if you pay for premium. ABRP is better at factoring in terrain too, which the VW / Skoda system is bad at. Watch Bjorn Nyland's videos about ABRP, tells you a lot about how it works.

It's 'good enough' as an estimate for comfort break planning before leaving.

At the moment my biggest gripe with it is that you can't (at least at my last check) download maps, it has to stream them. Where I live there's zero data signal, so I have to drive with a line on a blank map. Likewise as I get closer to home it drops the map, and has no concept of traffic, turns or similar. Naturally as I know where I am that's no great shakes, but I can see it being an issue if one were in unknown territory. Oh, and no matter how much I tell it not to use toll roads it seems to want me to go on the M6 Toll and won't warn me when it calculates the route, so I don't know until I suddenly realise what it's done, then it won't reroute without using the M6 Toll. That's probably user error though. You can use it free for a week (month?) so I suggest you start using it for your first long trip, and if you like it, pay the sub. TBH it's not worth the sub for me as nearly all my driving is home-work-home, so I use the web version to work out a good spot for lunch en-route, and charge while we're eating.

You can also use Tronity if you wish rather than an OBD, it pulls data from there via the MySkoda data feed. An OBD is better, as it gives proper real-time data (and plenty more data beside, such as battery temperature - useful to know for charging).
