Skoda favorit brake swap/upgrade front +rear

Featured Replies

Greeting
I am interested in a swap brake on a Skoda Favorite

I read the thread of teflontom

Can I use a ford mondeo swap in the front?

Can I use a golf 3 gti swap in the back
Or does it only apply to felicia

Is it possible to use the g60 front swap because I have a good offer for the front brake set

why do you want something like this?

With the ''small'' HP that we have we don't need disc brakes in the rear, drum brakes are OK.

Felicia weight balance is 62/38, adding disc brakes (without proper suspension-good condition tyres) will cause you problems while braking.

If you have 93 favorit with 4x100 bilt pattern, it should be very similar to Felicia - i think there were slightly different front discs due to ABS on Felicia.

nope, Favorit is pre-VW development, so most VW parts won't fit.

You need Ford calipers, because Favorit used the same Girling licenced calipers.

Disc brakes (or bigger discs) won't necessarily add braking force, it all depends on balance, especially when limiting valves are involved. Mix and matching brakes from different cars might indeed throw balamce off.

However it dramatically improves heat dissipation, which might be benefical even with the stock engine.

I have read complains from drivers which made ''alchemies'' in their brakes that in the last meters of their breaking the rear of the car moves left of right.

That's why there are limiting valves/regulators on the rear axle and three different piston sizes :D

Good thing is to check configuration on a car of a similar weight (Polo 6N or Ibiza 6K) and do some math to make sure that the brake force balance will be in the same ballpark.

This topic is very close to what i was considering on the other day, though i have a Felicia combi.

So I gather, that a swap to rear disk brakes from the mentioned WV might be potentially bad as rear will lock up more often than not.  Did I get the gist correctly?

I would like to get a bit sharper brakes on a Felicia (sorry for hijacking the topic). I have a Saab900, an ancient heavy cruiser, 4 discs, all original, 10-20 years old system. The brakes are amazingly sharp compared with the Felicia.

What advise can you guys give? Should i go for some high-end brand for discs, pads, or should i choose different pad material? Mind you it's not a racing car, i just wish for the same sharpness that that old Saab gives me. (every time i swap cars, i headbutt the steering wheel as i drive out the driveway. :D Then i smile having great brakes on the Swedish whale)
