VRS rear light issue - Side light not working

Featured Replies

Ive been dealing with a bulb failure warning for a while, everything was working fine, but now my near side rear side light has stopped working, Everything else works fine. I swapped the bulb holder and the problem persists.

Ive tested the voltage and Im getting less that 2v at the plug, compared to 12v on the other side so Ive got a wiring faff somewhere.

Can anyone help with a wiring schematic, or better pictures of the loom in the boot? Just need to know where it goes.

Cheers :)

Haynes website. I paid for the online manual.

Thank you. I did wonder if that might be the case but a 1990 printed Haynes is the newest I've seen.

Just bought a brand-new printed one off them for a Peugeot 107 (Toyota Aygo) as I'm most likely getting a 2013 one off a family member as my next car. Online or printed version are £20 each, or both for £25.

I'm not the biggest fan of Haynes as the 1974 and 1980 versions of my last car carried over errors and omissions and the 1990 version for the gearbox I had was very unclear with details but I like the colour and simplicity of the diagram you posted - subject to accuracy, that was missing from the Owner's Manual for my wife's 2015 Fabia.

Thank you.

Yeah, there are errors in the Fabia one, and others I've had. And ''reversal of removal'' is never that simple :D

Does anyone know the location of the break point of the rear light loom? Or any common points where it could get damaged?

You could just run a wire from the working side.

Wont that just leave the bulb failure alarm on?

Oh yeah, never thought of that. Mine doesn't have such trickery.

Are you testing for voltage at the grey & black wire at the bulb holder?

Yes, only got 2 volts

OK, can only think it's a break in the loom if the front sidelight is working. You will have try and trace it or take a feed from further back in the loom.

The main loom for the rear runs down the right inner cill....

Excellent, thanks. Ill get stripping and have a look. Every other light works fine so I assume its a break somewhere.

OK finally had time to really investigate this.

What I found - Left hand rear light not working, high level brake light not working. Every other light works as advertised.

Theres 12v coming out of the light switch and the plug on the brake pedal. I found a break in point behind the  bonnet release catch panel, no voltage at that point, so behind the dash somewhere lies the problem.

Put a feed from the light switch direct to that break in point and the rear light works so the rest of the loom is fine.

Im assuming its this bulb failure module/relay/fuse, anybody have an idea where it is and what its called, google doesnt bring up any answers

I think you'll find it on the relay panel behind lower dash trim, driver's side. Spans positions 13 and 14 on bottom row.

So its just a relay?

Well, a control unit about the size of two normal relays, with pins that fit in those adjacent relay sockets.

Message me your vin and I could look up part number and price new if still available.
