I took ownership of it as an ex-demonstrater with around 400 x miles in April 2021. It started throwing up this error after a few months. I didn't bother as I new it was under warranty and I'd get to the bottom of it. However, after around 6 x trips to the Dealer for this issue, I'm starting to run out of patience. Has anyone else had this error? If so, did you get a solution? So far the camera has been changed, software reset, reinstalled and updated, wiring has been checked, and recently a new control module was fitted but the fault still persists. I've also been told it may be a symptom of the car i.e. The camera shouldn't be on when going forward and just last week I was told it may be electromagnetic interference in the areas where it happens 😲

The way this fault generally happens is - reverse out drive (rear camera displays footage on the infotainment screen)

Stop then select first gear (camera turns off and system moves in to Park Distance Control)

Drive off. Park distance control remains on the screen while I'm increasing speed then after around 5 x seconds, the screen jumps to the fault

I get the warning notice, on first reversing out of garage, but just move gear lever to drive, then back to reverse, and all OK. Then front warning comes on (having closed garage door), and stays on until it is happy I am no longer manoeuvring, or I hit the X button to switch it off. Car under a year old, Sportline spec with DSG.

Perhaps just leave all the systems to kick-in upon start up? When I start up there’s a short period 10-15 seconds, never really timed it) before everything appears on the info screen and I wonder if that’s why you don’t get reversing camera immediately although personally never had that message

This has happened occasionally on my Karoq. I wonder if it is due to selecting reverse too quickly before the central screen has woken up.

EDIT. BTandSid's post appeared as I was about to submit my reply.

Pressing the appropriate button in middle console does not switch on the rear camera either, when this message appears?

On mine too. Deselecting and reselecting reverse sorted it out...

Have seen the same message myself and like the other replies I formed the opinion it relates to the car not having fully woken up.

Certainly have never seen the message when the car has been running for a while

I saw it on one occasion previously and the hatch was wide open.  I was only trying to roll back a few feet to create a gap to the car behind me to unload stuff.  Camera wouldn't work with it open.

I saw it again recently and it was because it thought the rear hatch was not closed.  I got out and opened/closed it again and it was fine after that.  Maybe dirt on a hatch lock sensor or something.

Might be worth looking at the catch and checking whether anything has got caught in the recess
