Driving over Snow

Featured Replies

Hi all, I recently acquired a 2016 Octavia Scout Auto, Diesel. I was suprised to find that there was not a "Snow" setting in the driving modes settings. During the recent bad weather I tried the "off road" but found that the anti skid off light came on and the performance was not very impressive given that I have fitted brand new continental M+S tyres. Anyone have any experience of this ? Other models seem to have a snow mode - is there an upgrade that's possible ? jeff

Welcome.

??

Are you sure the Haldex is working, has it had services done correctly at 3 years /48,000 km?

Even FWD cars with Winter or All Season tyres can get about OK without a Snow Setting and Skoda's have done for decades.

Did you try TC / ASR off?

Some Scouts come without an Offroad button / mode but i see yours has.     Read up on what Off-road does with the accelerator because it is not necessarily what you want on road and on snow or ice.

Which Continentals?

I take it they are Continental M+S that are marked as 3PMSF tyres (3 peak mountain snow flake)

Thanks for the reply. I was suprised that there was no snow setting as its such a common situation. The car did better on the snow  in the normal setting than off road when the asr is off. The car is off and about at the moment ( in the snow) the tyres were fitted by the Skoda dealer and snow tyres are a legal requirement here so I would assume they are fit for purpose. I will researche the haldex thing, its a new one on me. Jeff

You will find plenty about the Haldex and correct servicing including the filter,

You want to know you are getting drive to the rear.

Have you checked and reset the tyre pressures since getting the car? Remember and reset the TPMS.

Loads of stuff about on Scouts, Haldex, servicing etc.

I had my Haldex stop working. No warning lights or error codes.

I had to identify it by pulling away uphill on slippery surfaces and the front wheels struggled to pull it away fast from wet junctions whilst turning.

My first haldex service was an oil change only - and at that time they didn't realise a new filter was needed too (duh...)

Reading around I discovered that clogged filters were common, and Haldex didn't sent error codes to the ECU very well.

New filter, oilchange and whatever electronic reset they do sorted it.
