How do I increase the idle speed on 2014 1.4 VRS ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Currently my vehicle idles at 800 RPM and feels as if its going to stall (doesn't) How do I increase it slightly ? I've carried out a number of searches on the forums but the result is 40 pages to trawl through.

I have VCDs and when I look at the adaptions in the engine control module no idle speed adjustment is shown only "park heating activation" do I require the engine module security access code to get into the module to make the adjustment ? if so where will I find out the code ?

As ever any assistance greatly welcomed

Why do you feel it is about to stall? My Roomster idles at 650rpm when warm (according to rev counter) and it is so smooth that it feels that the engine has stopped.

That idle speed is about right for the 1.4 TSI Twincharger in D after 40 seconds or so after the RPM drops from start up.

?

What does it go to when sitting and moving the shifter to S ?

?

Is you car running modifications, air intake, coils, remap etc?

@edbostan it falters slightly and doesn't idle smoothly

It isn't, it won't and you can't!

There is an idle stabilisation system and you actually have to put the engine under considerable load (via the clutch on a manual) to stall it.

If you have a faltering idle the answer is not to raise the idle speed (which you cannot) but to find the cause.

So is all well with the plugs, coils, air intake.  Is the engine standard or modded?

Does it start at 1,100 rpm and drop to this 800 rpm.   Are you running using E5 Super Unleaded?

Looking at this again it idles at 650 RPM as @edbostan states

@toot Thanks, in drive remains at 650, S increases correctly to 1000 RPM

I may be being a bit OTT 🤪

Thanks people as always 👍

@Crucian

So is that foot on the brake and the DSG in D?

Because in N and parking brake on is different.

As is AC on.

But below 800 rpm means something is not right if foot on Brake Pedal and in D.

PS

@Edbostan has a 1.2 TSI.  He does not say if a DQ200 DSG, but even if it is the  where is the 650 rpm being read on an not accurate rev counter?

Cold weather hot engine foot on brake pedal, and just in P. Normal idle.

I suspect you're wetting the bed needlessly...
