Featured Replies

Right for those long term members who have watched me build up my old Fabia nicknamed by many '12 Volt' will have memories of the mods etc. i had done to her... for example:

Well insurance done their work and claimed off the other party and as always it was possible to buy the old car back....

Well here she is and already I have set to work removing old panels and begining the start of a very long term project on the old girl, so watch this space for more over the next few months.

Wow, I Didn't know you could buy a car back like that. I must Say your Fabia has been an "Inspiration" to me, but I wont be doing any Mods on because I Intend on Getting a Roomster in September. What Category Write off was the car?

So you'll be looking for a new dashboard then!!!

12 Volt is my long term engineering project while all my mates go off to uni i am going to spend my spare time working on her for 4 years time when they come back to show them how fast i can make a 1.2  (or however many volts she may be by then ;) )

'New' might not be the word... but 'as cheap as flipping possible' dash might be the word!!

Will do, i'll keep it in this thread.

Good luck with the project Richard!

I hope that chassis leg is still where its supposed to be. Make sure it gets aligned afterwards.

Going to take it to a crash repair centre to get them to do all the chassis work and steering. Just doing the cosmetic exterior and interior work myself.

Bent chassis legs tend to be the main cause of a write off, when it comes to the crunch. (sorry, that was a bit freudian)

I hope all the steering arrangement (swingarms, centre console, hubs etc) is all OK. :)

good luck Richard if you need any help locating any spares gimme a shout!

Just to be cheeky how much did the insurance charge you for buying back?

10% =

Bargain. Reckon you'll have to spend a fair bit to get it back on the road (safely).

Do you need to get someone to check the vehicle over once you've repaired it to get a clean bill of health as well? (no idea myself, just kinda interested :D )

thats why this is going to be a VERY VERY long term project!! Don't want to go wasteing money.

No way its going back on the road without being checked, got to look into this yet but as i said somewhere else its going to go into a coachworks to check and adjust any kinks in chassis (front leg has taken a knock at the end but over all the chassis is as solid as a rock and as bad as it all looks it was only cosmetic with the panels which are just a bolt on/off job.)

Only problem with suspension is one wheel out of alignment so thats all good news, easy fix there.

All in all a real bargin, picked it up for nothing and rest of the car is imaculate as i left it.

If I remember, it was me who pegged the name 12 volt on MSN. At least it still lives and will continue. Good luck. If you need any VAG-COM help, let me know as I'm not far away.

Elastic band upgrade is it then  Only joking mate :D

You going to live the dream and go for the 1.8T conversion :headbang:

We shall see, will get get the car runable first, then start things like brake upgrades, stiffer suspension, then if money is right in a few years and i can find a scrappy, the time and the man power its possible.

But we shall just see what happens in time.

Hmmm can you turbo a 1.2   :D

I do believe it was... and thanks for VAG COM will be useful, until I invest in it... think this should be my first bit of spending really on a project such as this.
