MK1 Octavia vRS project. Track car with Leon Cupra R front powertrain and suspension

Cupra R bottom arms and hubs/knuckles almost ready to go off for powder coating and 6 speed gearbox collected along with the 4 pot Brembos. Quaife LSD is on order so looking forward to getting that fitted and also ordered the two piece discs with PBS pro race pads

I'll be interested to see how this project develops as the S3 engine & 6 speed box should make for a very quick car.

 

Also, seeing the MK1 Golf brings back happy memories of instant throttle response and lift off oversteer back in the day. 😁

Yeah I can't wait to get it all in. Just waiting on the gearbox to come back from having the diff fitted and then should be able to get cracking. Won't be that quick compared to most stuff on track nowadays but should still hold its own and be lots of fun.

 

The MK1 Golf is lovely isn't it? It's my mates and it should be coming to this year's nurburgring trip again

Hubs/knuckles stripped of bearings, bottom arms stripped of bushes and sent off for powder coating. Also my mate holding the limited slip differential looking very happy. He wants one for his 450bhp MK1 TT.

 

Gearbox has been sent off to be stripped, inspected, new bearings fitted and of course the LSD fitted. Most parts have arrived but are still in boxes so will update the thread when fitting them.

Gearbox in bits and new quaife diff fitted. 

 

Still waiting on the bits from the powdercoaters and there's a couple more parts to get still.

 

Also weighed the 2 piece discs against the one piece discs. A difference of 2kg on each disc which is really good! All unsprung weight saving which will help alot

Are those some type of rivet, that have to machined-out, securing the crown wheel to the old diff?

Yes the original diff was riveted to the crown wheel and the new diff is bolted with ARP bolts I believe

diff is life :)  atleast no rivets dropping into the crown wheel :thumbup:

Never driven a car with an LSD before so looking forward to seeing how it drives and puts the power down. Have you driven a car with an LSD?

Little update on the project. Rear beam painted and polybushes installed along with all new brake lines front to rear including goodridge flexi's. Whiteline ARB and Bilstein B16 adjustables. Just waiting on rear wheel bearings to arrive and then can fit the new calipers which have been painted and that's the rear end done then

Also chassis legs treated for rust and painted. 

 

Engine has had genuine new crank seals either side, cam belt kit and tensioner, forge baffled sump, painted cam cover, single mass flywheel and new clutch, S3 engine loom fitted, ancillaries swapped. Just need to sort vacuum and coolant pipework out, fit the 6 speed box and then power train can go back in. Pics to follow..

Front subframe ready to go back together with parts freshly powdercoated, new bearings/hubs, track rods, track rod ends, bottom ball joints, everything polybushedand of course a quick rack off a Leon Cupra R.

 

Engine also pretty much built up and ready to go in. Just need a few little bits before it can be fitted as don't want to make life difficult with access by fitting the engine and then struggling to get to stuff. Hopefully fit the whole unit and then just wire up and plumb in and jobs a gooden 😊
