Gear shoft indicator

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I have a skoda fabia mk2 with a 1.2 thp 75hp. My friend of mine has a simular one with the less powerful engine but his instruments are showing him the ideal and current gear. I have a vcds cable that I got from a family member and it is original and a wanted to code the gear shift indicator into my car too, but I couldnt find any way to do it.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Welcome.

Sorry i can not help, but have you tried driving your friends car to see if you would change gear according to what the car indicates?

I have only ever read / heard of it being hopeless and best ignored.

Hi. I wouldnt change my gears according to the indicator, I jus sometimes forget what gear am I in and it would be nice to be able to check it on the instrument cluster.

It looks like this on my friends car.

I doubt you can have that activated but someone might be along that knows how to.

I would need to have my reading glasses on to see that, it would be easier to look at the gear sticks position for me, but then i drive autos and they are easy to know what gear they are in.

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

We all(?) sometimes forget what gear we are in but a quick glance at the dials for speed and revs should tell us if we are in an appropriate gear for the conditions.

What mathematical formula do you use based on the speeds and revs info seen to calculate if you are in the correct gear. Also could you edit your answers as there are 3 lines telling us that you are  "not a mechanic or expert in anything" surrounding the single line answer to the posts question.

Is it revving it's nut off of and not going very fast or chugging and a change of gear might be simply clever or just nessecary.

I would use common sense and previous experience of driving the vehicle - or I could use stated mph per 1,000 rpm per gear.

It's my understanding that not everyone sees all of them and I only started using the prefix and its reinforcement to try to keep my troll away a bit and as someone else thought my posts appeared too authoritative I thought it best to warn those that might not know or realise.

As you've asked politely, despite your current and previous pedentry (careful Keith there's a deliberate trap and wind-up there 😉 ) I will edit the post, and drop the reinforcing.
