Karoq bonnet struts

Featured Replies

Anyone know if the 2022/23 Karoqs have bonnet struts ? If so are the parts available to fit to 2019 model?

Afraid not, just regular hinges and a stay as on previous MY’s.

Thanks for that Modders

I wasn't really bothered before but I have two frozen shoulders now ( it's my age ) so a little help wouldn't go amiss.

Dont fancy the aftermarket ones as they look a bit of a bodge and you never know the quality of the struts themselves.

Oh well just have to struggle for a bit longer. Luckily only ever lift the bonnet to top up the washers.

Hello RH, I can recommend the Febi Bilstein struts. I think they look OEM when fitted, and a simple job to do.

I've not seen a full kit available, that option wasn't available when I retro-fitted my Octavia - but it might be available now. There is a specific topic on this forum for sourcing parts and fitting them.

I do see a kit available from Ali, and there look to be some on 'The Bay'.

Yes thanks for that. I had seen them but wasn't keen on the mounting brackets, but I guess they are cheap enough to give them a try.

...I suppose I'm just a bit reluctant to buy stuff from China.  Silly really, half the stuff you buy in the UK is probably made in China anyway.

I agree, I'd suggest trying one of the UK Bay suppliers first.

To be fair, I don't think there are any UK suppliers as such. You can get UK struts but they are of little use without the bracketry to fit them and they all come from China.

I fitted some aftermarket struts to my wife's 19 plate Karoq (Ali Express). There are some pics I posted on here somewhere but I can't find them. Easy-ish to fit but I did need to fashion a spacer between the underside of the bonnet & the strut bracket to take up some slack. I used some plastic carpentry wedges cut to size. I also filed down the rough edges on the chunky bonnet bracket & gave them a spray of satin black to smarten them up.

"Bit of weekend" work as Mathewsons would say!!

Works OK. The struts are not overly powerful but they do help lifting it up.

Thanks for that. I had a feeling they may not be quite strong enough as the angle they are fitted is too acute. I have to admit that I prefer the look of those which are tucked away but the other style which uses longer gas struts attached further along the inner wing would obviously have more purchase as they are at a much better angle almost as soon as the bonnet is raised off the stops. I was looking at the one fitted to the Tiguan which is fitted to a fairly large bracket mounted to the bulkhead and uses a much longer gas strut which kind of convinced me to go that direction.

just done mine

still to be finished off(bolts cut done and painted)

only thing was the hole in the hinge bracket had to be opened up to 8mm and i will touch up once the bolts have been cut down

Thanks for that Stu. Whats the action like and where did you buy yours?

hi mate

the action is i find ok

I used what these guys suggested in this post

2x Febi Bilstein 27709 struts.

2x M8 ball joints with a 10mm ball head and 25mm thread length: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x4-ball-extension

2x M6 ball joints with a 10mm ball head and 12mm thread length: https://www.sgs-engineering.com/x2-ball-extension

only thing i have found is that the  m6 ball joints(which are fitted the the black slam panel as seen in the picture) i think could do with a longer thread so i have ordered some with a 25mm thread
