Help its broken

Featured Replies

I did a three hunderd mile round trip yesterday, in the hot weather. When I got back and sat up for a few mins to drive to the shop, the gearbox went wrong.

Engaging 1 3 5 is like pushing through tar, 2 4 are fine. It has got better as as the car cooled down after leaving it in the evening. I spoke to a local garage who said that gearbox are a common problem Jacksons Skoda said they had never heard of this.

I have had a small problem with it before, when selecting reverse, sometimes I have to push down the clutch once or twice to engage reverse.

What could it be?

How do I fix it?

Will changing the oil help at all?

I have a few weeks left of the car dealers 3 month warranty, should this be covered under it. Do I have to get it back to them to sort, or should they pay for a local garage to do it?

Synchromessh could be gone. Jacksons did mine as it was knackered on 2,3 & 5

Not good, how much was that?

Warranty job :D

I have similar issues but garage just say normal to me so nothing I can do :(

Had a similar problem on my octy ,lost fifth then interrmittently lost third, was on a winding narrow road so carried on for a few miles ,got to destination opened bonnet and found a 1"-1.5" inch hose and connector had fallen off the airbox and dropped onto the gearchange mechanism and was blocking the counterweight on the top of the gearbox.pulled hose back up refitted it ,very tight fit ,looks very much like at last service pipe had been disturbed and not recconnected properly

been fine ever since

Panic over. V happy. Something had fallen off and blocked the selector. Not going to say what as embarrasing, as I put it on. Jacksons Basingstoke sorted it for me gratis, and even put it back on properly for me. Good lads. Phoned a gear box 'specialist' in the area and told then the initial problem, and they said that Octy gear boxes are prone to that, and taxi firms even have a spare on standby. A load of money grabbing s**te according to skoda.

Ta for the advice.
