If I wanted to get VCDS for my son-in-law to use on my car I assume I just have to purchase the Ross-Tech VCDS HEX-V2 USB 3-VIN Package (currently available at £222.00) and download the software from Ross Tech onto my laptop.

Is this correct?

I have also seen another company selling the VCDS®HEX-V2 USB (3 VIN) ROSS-TECH VCDS® HEX-V2 USB for £225 which has the software on a USB stick. Is this a better option?

Although a large outlay I feel it could very quickly pay for itself, as good tools usually do.

Or use the freeware version VCDS Lite, downloaded from Ross-tech and a £20  third-party cable...

They are both the same product, Ross-Tech sell direct, but they also have a network of distributors. If the reseller you found is UK based, you may save on customs charges buying from them instead of Ross-Tech.
