Boot lid holding and leaking water

Featured Replies

My Octavia vRS Hatchback boot lid has started leaking water (actually comes out of the boot lid from the two plastic bumper pieces either side of the lock).  I’ve never had it before and now whenever it rains and I open the boot it starts pouring out.  I also noticed that some water has started to collect along the boot seal and the carpet is wet along the left side (as you look into the boot space) however I am not sure if this is just where the water comes out of the boot lid.  It is now also has collected in the boot space under the floor (in the polystyrene kit holding the repair kit etc.15348B6B-DCBF-4A63-9FA8-8A0ACF797194.thumb.jpeg.d94a1aba4c6fb22fc8e8c24bb4307ce2.jpeg

There has been no rear damage and no other repair work to anything.  The rear windscreen has never had any issues and all of the seals look to be OK.

Any advise would be gratefully received.

Did you ever get this sorted?

I've had a similar intermittent rear hatch water leak now for over a year, since I've owned my car. Water up to now hasn't gone into my wheel well, fortunately.

I don't think it's wiper/washer related. As the water that comes out of the rear hatch panel is clear. I've also just emptied my water tank out from my rear washer spray jet, still dry as a bone.

I've now took out the 3 small rubber bungs from the bottom of the rear hatch/tailgate. So if the water drains out passively I won't be too bothered, as long as it doesn't then drain into the boot.

The only other thing I could think of would be the rear wiper arm seal, but that looks tight, not tested that as yet.

The wiper arm seal was the cause of a similar issue on my Kodiaq - took some tracing but the some windscreen sealant underneath the wiper arm seal and the glass sorted it.

Thanks for the info. It's clean water that's coming out of the bottom of the trim panel. So it's coming from somewhere. It's also intermittent, worst type of fault.

The wiper motor is easy enough to access. So I may put some silicone around the seal.

My octavia has certainly not been fault free for the duration on my ownership (15 months), but I slowly seem to be working my way through them.

Mine fills every few days. This afternoon opened to find the wheel well half filled and mould growing on the carpet cover.

I think it's the seal above the rear lights where the water puddles around the boot lid. I tracked it by taking the inside rear boot trim off and it comes in from a hole that holds an electrical wire clip. Never fixed it though and just have to dry it up at regular times.
