So we are supposed to wait 1 minute before driving?

Certainly you can drive it before then, but with greater risk of kangarooing.

My 2.0L does something similar, though I haven't timed it to confirm the 45 second delay before the RPM drops down to normal idle.

I just find the car uses a high amount of fuel so better to drive off and annoy Greta.

Many are not aware what goes on or 40 or 45 seconds.

The fuel primes when you open the drivers door, many never hear that.

Then some want to see the lights check and go out, or want the needle sweep.

If you get in and start the car, and then put on the seat belt, maybe the heated rear screen, the heated mirrors, put off the Stop / Start, and the lane assist, then by the time you put it in gear, Drive, 1st, Reverse or whatever the tick over is likely dropped anyway.

Then there is the Demisting, maybe,  or summer still a high tick over and AC on and it does not drop as low.

Pretty sure mine doesn't prime when opening door. I just get in start, seat belt on and drive.

It does prime the fuel if the car has sat a few hours.

Try listening.

People who park a car and need to go in the passenger door might notice and extra crank before the engine fires.

Like i said, 'many are not aware',  that is of many things.

I can't hear it I'm sure I would do, when I turn on the ignition I can hear it

It primes even with keyless entry and start.

When you unlock the vehicle or open the door? Why would it prime then prime again when turning on ignition? Low pressure prime when opening the door and higher pressure when turning ignition on?

Check it out yourself, you are a mechanic are you not?

You can code so that the passenger door does the priming with a TSI.

I am. I'll take a look cheers. Need to get a new VCDS cable as I think mines too old for this car.

Try get in, turn ignition on, check dash lights and warnings as you put your seat belt on, then after checks and belt(s) on start the engine, and check for warning lights with engine running and any sounds or smells (hopefully not tastes)  before driving off, none of this takes long and you might hear the sounds, particularly all those from under the bonnet as the computer programs do their stuff.  My wife's 1.2 TSI (90) engine makes all sorts of different noises at different times and circumstances, I've learnt to ignore them otherwise I get annoyed as I've always found the VW petrol 4 pots to sound badger's arse (and I'm used to BMC/BL cars) of course the VW 3-pots sound 25% (or is it 33.3%) worse, but I admit I'm biased as I've never particularly like VW products (Mk1 Golf GTi excepted) or fallen for the German engineering quality line, well this century/millennium at least.  We all know the VW engineers fiddle things around to suit marketing and regulatory needs and this can put compromises on the compromises and mistakes already there.

And you know it's the loose nut behind the steering wheel that contributes a lot to mpg or lack of it, as well as other issues on the car .  😁

If you can improve things (overall), great I'm sure others will want to know, good luck.

Yes seems to be a low pressure prime then high pressure when ignition turned on

yes, it is simple logic, you can not prime it high presure unless ignition is on (ecu waked up, and ready).

That doesn't make sense.
