No brake pedal, all been bled.

Featured Replies

Hi so I fitted both front callipers as I got 312mm brake upgrade. I was initially sold the wrong callipers so the car was left without brake fluid for 3/4 weeks. The ‘new’ callipers were rusty, especially around the dust cover so potentially an issue there. But I pressure bled it and bled it normally several times, still can’t get a pedal. Haven’t used VCDS as I don’t have it but surely I should have something.

I suspect the system is full of air somewhere, I assume you've bled all four corners starting with the longest pipe run, you'll have to go through it again and you'll definitely need to use VCDS to bleed the ABS block.

If you have introduced air into the ABS block be prepared for a world of pain if you don't have a way of running the ABS pump.

Is there anyway I can bleed it without vcds? So I can get it to somewhere? I don’t have it and it’s currently in a garage away from home

I seem to recall in the Haynes Manual it said to bleed the rears in tandem and then the fronts inbetween doing them individually, thats what got the last bit of air out when I last made the error but I did at least have a pedal at that point

I have literally nothing, pedal goes to the floor then sinks even further, like there is fluid escaping somewhere but the brake fluid is full and I can’t see any leaks.

It's full of air, do it again, start with the rears, do each caliper in turn until they all run clear.

How do I bleed the master cylinder? Does anyone have any photos

You don't. The master cylinder is only just below the reservoir, and doesn't need bleeding.

If you have air in system I'd suggest something like EEZIEBLEED. But then , you need to take advice ( looking at your history), before playing with brakes.

I’ve recently ran into a problem with my 2004 Fabia vrs. So I’ve changed my brakes from standard to 312mm and being an idiot I left the system dry for a month. Now I’ve put the brakes on and bled them and the pedal goes to the floor but if I pump it I have a pedal and then a few seconds after it goes to floor again, so I’ve changed the master and still same problem. I’ve also bled it with a diagnostic to run the abs pump and still nothing any suggestions. Pressure bled it, air bled & manually bled still nothing.
No obvious leaks under the car.

Clamp off the flexible hoses to the front calipers and see if the pedal improves, if it does then the air is within the calipers.

You may have joined the countless others who have fitted the calipers on the wrong sides & learned the hard way why the bleed nipples should be at the top and not the bottom! 💡

I have a close friend of some 40 years now who I first met when a mutual friend asked me to have a look to see why he and his friend (now my friend) could not bleed the brakes after refitting the calipers.

I have a photo I took in Venuzuela of a piper aircraft that was taking me an others to Canaima camp for an onward trek to Angel falls, that too had the calipers swapped side to side with the bleed nipples at the bottom and no surprise the brakes did not work.

Do you know which way the bleed nipples should face? Mine are on the bottom side.

Yes I do and I have already told you where they should be!

I will give you a clue, does air rise or sink within a liquid?

Swap the calipers left to right.
