new electric cars have such lightening acceleration

Einsteinian relativity shows us that higher velocity makes cars (and anything else) heavier; logically therefore electric cars must have "heavying acceleration" if the accelerate faster... ;)

  • So in light of the increase - what do insurance companies do about keeping repair costs down, not using inflated parts and labour figures?   Typical example from a while back - a small bump

  • Potentially also an issue with 'false' medical claims associated with accidents and inflated hire car costs (compared to the rates we get through work)?   I'm sure these medical stuff is che

I think that a lot of the problem can be summarised as:- 1. There are to many various companies involved in the claims / repair dep't, each and everyone is looking to make a handsome profit., the

the second year it was £396.35 and may be around £420 at the end of the policy (it is miles driven based). This coming year if I don't move, doing the same 6,000ish miles is going to be £998.95.

Why the big difference between the above 2 sets of figures written only 10 weeks apart?

Simple, because my car got wrote off for me by someone driving into me doing a U turn and claimed he couldn't see me as the sun was in his eyes, the first was based on the old policy continuing, I forgot that with the new replacement car, the premium also altered for the rest of the year and I hadn't factored that rise into the first figures, so nothing strange, and certainly no conspiracy to mislead you.

Also, the original figures were based on as it says, 6,000 miles, I forgot to allow for the 2,000+ miles I did, in the loan car which was not part of the mileage allowance deal, it came with its own insurance, so when I factored in the extra miles, it came to the new figure, which I rejected I now have another insurer for around half the cost if I had stayed with the old one, simple as that.

Oh and in case you haven't worked it out, the old policy also expired in those 10 weeks and so there has been a lot of activity and price movements, but it is still way more than your renewal price, so living in France does have its benefits thats for sure.

As to me saying I've had three accidents since 2016, that's true and each time I have had dashcam footage from my dashcam that very clearly proved that not a single accident was in shape or form down to me showed that I did not contribute to any of them, it was entirely the other drivers faults.

It would seem that, for whatever reason, you are a driver who ends up in accidents more than the average driver, and sadly the insurers adjust your premium based on the risk they rather crudely determine you to be.

It might be possible to get a better quote from a particular broker who may take into account the fact that the accidents were not your fault. (It'd be nice to see the dashcam footage of them to be honest, but I'm a nosey so and so.)

What grinds my gears, is that my wife, who is not the best driver and in her worst year managed to write off two cars in the space of 12 months, still has a reducing impact on my premium if I add her as a named driver to my policy.

I remember the last time someone posted editted dashcam footage on here to supposedly demonstrate their innocense, I'm afraid I was amongst those that gave a rather forthright contrary opinion, they have gone very quiet since, I wonder which driver was considered liable or if it went knock for knock?

One thing is for sure, they will both get shafted at renewal time, there is no such thing as a no blame party when it comes to policy renewal, only a captive audience to be exploited 😒

I think I still have the footage somewhere, when I find it, I don't mind hosting it somewhere, I've nothing to hide.

  • 3 weeks later...

Went with my renewal in the end but hadn't realised it wasn't like-4-like  -  they'd unilaterally added NCB protection  ( which I never take - long story ).  So...

2022-23 insurance: £320

2023-24 insurance: £348

an increase of £28.  Have to be happy with that !

The only downside was it's the first time I've renewed with AVIVA and everything is done online. Which is fine by me. But when you encounter a problem AFTER you've accessed your account, the automated system seems to be unable to cope - the only help it offers is if you can't log in to your account. ( It's been saying that all week that my policy can't be displayed due to technical issues - try again later  ). Trying to contact someone is a complete nighmare  - ended up conversing with an agent  who I'm convinced wasn't English.  It took me from 1pm until almost 2pm today just to renew my policy. If other insurers had offered compeditive prices, I'd have changed companies - it'd have been much quicker and less frustrating. But for the difference in price, the pain was worth it.

^^^^^ as per @kodiaqsportline, I also continued with existing insurer - although my premium increase was £100 - my usual online comparison site could only offer a lowest price that was considerably worse!😒

It's almost as if it's gone full circle. Go back many years and you were rewarded for loyalty. Around the time of Thatcher, loyalty went out the window and it was discounts for new business, ( short term outlook ). Seems we're back to the loyalty game again  :D
