Data Protection Information

Featured Replies

Every time I switch on the Infotainment screen I get this "Data Protection Information" displayed  - see attached photo. I have to tap the "OK" on the screen to get rid of it. Not a huge issue, but slightly annoying.

It's telling me to go into "Privacy and Manage settings" in the "System settings" to change it . However, I don't have any of those options in the  "System settings" .

Anybody know how to get rid of this message permanantly?

I've got my mobile phone linked via Smartlink OK, but I don't think it's anything to do with that.  Is it something to do with Skoda Connect Services - I haven't signed up to that and don't want it anyway. Could the previous owner of my Fabia signed up to it and it's some sort of hang over from that ?

I went to my Skoda dealer who tried to get rid of this message. He managed to get into the "Privacy" settings, but it didn't allow him to amend anything related to this message. He did a system reset with no joy. (I'd already tried this previously myself).

He agreed with me that it's most likely something to do with Skoda Connect. If I was to sign up for that then it would probably allow me to amend a setting that would get rid of this message.  I've no intention of getting Skoda Connect as I don't see the point of paying £50+ a year for a load of "features" that I'm not in the least bit interested in!!  eg. I'm told I would be able to view all the car's journey statistics on my mobile phone. Big deal. !!   It tells me  when my car needs a service and books it for me - what's wrong with Google calendar reminder and picking up a phone ??  There are other so called "benefits", but I honestly can't see me using them or wanting them. Just an excuse for Skoda to extract more money off their customers.

I've now got used to just tapping the "OK" button on the screen when I start up, so it's no real issue anymore.

I am planning on doing the free trial for a month to see if I can rid myself of this annoying message, and see what other features it has.

It's just a standard message, show every time, regardless of settings or Skoda Connect status

The reason being that the car does report back to Skoda, even without Skoda Connect, and if the vehicle was in use by another driver, be it in a hire car situation or if your vehicle was ever in for repair. It would technically be unlawful for skoda to collect data information without informed consent.

Appreciate this is some months old, but is there really no way of getting rid?

Hmmm I don't ever get this message on my SE L. I do still have Skoda connect though so maybe that's why?

Hi all, just wanted to resurrect this old thread because I have the same issue on my Scala and I can't really see anything online about getting rid of it.

Now that the car has been out for a few years, I thought it would be worth again.

Try not physically turning off the infotainment unit using its ON/OFF button.

This means that the infotainment unit will be on continuously until the car's doors are locked, when the infotainment unit will automatically 'sleep'. Then, when the car's ignition is next turned on, the infotainment will automatically 'wake', but no Data Protection Information message should appear.

That sort of works, but only if you've got say the radio on the screen when you switch off the ignition and lock the doors. When you switch the ignition back on again, then OK the radio comes back on and not the "Data Protection" message.

But I don't often have the radio on in my Fabia, and prefer just the clock and date display.  As soon as you turn the radio off, then back comes the "Data Protection" message.

I've now got used to tapping the "OK" on the message as soon as it appears and it doesn't really bother me now - along with all the other buttons I press to cancel things like "stop/start" and "lane assist".  The later invented by some nerd !!

Yes, it's a 'fudge' - but it works after a fashion.

It was suggested elsewhere on this forum and I tried it on my car. However (as you rightly say) it may be simpler to accept that there's no simple fix and just bite the bullet and press the OK button.

I’ve just bought a fabia colour edition 2023. It happens always. Ive been into settings and tried all sorts to rectify it- no luck. I did ring the dealer a few days after buying the car. They never got back to me. It’s wrong that we have to put up with it. Considering tech nowadays and cost of cars. I’m very dissatisfied with thrm

Nothing you can do, mate.

Get in the car, start up, press that OK button and the Start/Stop button next to the handbrake and you're away.

Every time.

To make things worse, if you're driving and switch the radio off you have to hit that OK button again .... every time.

Start/stop next to handbrake?

Mines not there. It’s where a key would go. Right hand side of steering wheel 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry. Thought they would all be the same.

Next to the gearshift above the door lock button.

This image is taken from an advert is for a 2023 Fabia Colour Edition with manual transmission and I've green-arrowed the button that turns the car's START/STOP system OFF.

This is the standard position of the START/STOP button of a Fabia Mk4 with manual or automated transmission.

The purpose of the 'keyless start' button

on the right of the steering-column beneath the steering-wheel is to switch the car's ignition ON or OFF and start the car's engine.
