Engine warning light-tried loads of things

Recommended Posts

Hi I have an amber engine warning light that has been a problem for at least 5 years.

Things tried.

-garage repair and lambada sensor replaced

-garage repair and mass airflow sensor replaced

-garage repair and another sensor replaced-

each time time stays off for couple of weeks and then back on again.

-tried petrol carb treatment stuff that you pop a bottle in through filler cap. worked for several weeks.

-fuel filter replaced by brother-worked for several weeks

-took to different garage for mot a month ago. they said it was the thermostat on exhaust. worked for 2 weeks.

one of the garages did say the had read that a 'lazy carburettor ' can be cause.

The petrol consumption is thirstier than an alcoholic.

Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks guys!

@Fabbydawn  Why not tell us what engine & gearbox this car has that you keep paying people to fix who apparently can not,

and how old it is and how many miles has it done?

Petrol Carb treatment was a waste of time / money and mention of a lazy carb is odd.

So some fuel treatment or injection cleaner i assume that you paid them handsomely for.

Never, repeat, never, go near those male bovine faeces merchants again! You don't have a carburettor.

Another thing worth doing while you're looking for the build sticker in the boot, is to go round the driver's side and try to get a photo of the fuel filter that's fitted, specifically the end where the orange arrow is on this pic.

If it say's 3.0 bar, like this one, you have the wrong part fitted, it should say 4.0 bar.

The filter is located just inboard of the sill, in front of the rear wheel on (UK) driver's side. Under the car, not inside it.

Waving a phone camera down there on video mode may be a good way of initially locating it.

If it has no such marking in that position, try to get a photo of any part number markings it may have anywhere on it. Or part numbers recorded on the receipt from when last changed.

Looking at the OP's posting history this has been dragging on for a couple of years, it's a 1.2 HTP from 2008 as far as I can tell, it would be nice if we could find out what DTC is actually throwing the CEL because throwing money at it is only really working for the garage.
