has anyone sent their octi tdi for a remap?

Featured Replies

Although i have yet to get the octy delivered i was wondering if anyone had gone for a remap to get a bit more from the 2.0tdi. I have seen a couple of sites advertising chips to boost bhp to about 180. Anyone know if its worth it? especially after the post on 0-60 figures.

Oh..... its worth it ;)

What did you get how do the figures weigh up??

180-190bhp and 300-320lb/ft should easily be avilable from the likes of Revo and Celtic Tuning. Have a look at Celtics web site, there are a number of reviews on there for the 2.0 TDI in both VW and Skoda guise. Similar reviews and figures are avilable for Revo on a number of their official suppliers sites.

Totally agree.................

What would you realistically achieve out of the 1.9 Tdi Octy 2 engine?

Superchips claim 143bhp and 305 Nm of torque.

Jabba can do 150-155.

Bl**dy hell that's a hell of a power increase from 105bhp!

I've heard the 2.0ltdi is capable of handling up to 230bhp with just a remap (obviously the DSG won't handle that and neither would the clutch on the manual). Not seen it though.

I think 200bhp should be possible just a remap and maybe a little more help from a better intake/exhaust system.

Well may have to look at a remap with the money saved on the audience and 12 speakers which skoda have told me are IMPOSSIBLE to have fitted at the factory, sounds fishy to me. what kind of insurance hike will a remap make.

??????????????? I managed to have it fitted at the factory, although if buying again I would not pay the extra myself, I'd buy a decent aftermarket HU and speakers.

remap depends on the insurers. Some will not entertain the thought. It would be best to ask your insurer if they cover it.

Adrian flux is popular for remapped cars though.

No problems there I'd imagine

Direct Line 21%- 30% increase cost me

Why inform insurers of a remap? They're very unlikely to tell, or indeed prove you didn't buy it that way.

Personally, I see it as a comfort factor, and 'not breaking the law' if anything happened why give them a chance of getting out of paying for any costs, not that I expect to have an accident!

Yes, I know it might sound righteous but I'm happy to pay a bit more.

Btw, I bought it new and standard.

I agree that insurers over charge for remaps but talking about not declaring it is dodgy ground in any forum... If you crash into someone (e.g. me) and your insurance checks the car (don't believe they can't find out because if they really want to they will) and void your insurance then in this example I'm stuck with having to pay for your mistake. You might as well not insure your car

If you can't afford the insurance increase don't get a remap... Full Stop!

P.S. not having a go or anything just giving the general opinion on not declaring remaps

Especially when YOU have to fork out hundreds of thousands in a major RTC when your insurance is voided!, oh and then there's the prison sentance...

An insurer is extremely unlikely to check and as I said before, they can't prove that the car wasn't like that when you bought it. They therefore can't decline your claim. As for a prison sentence, not sure what you're on about.

Its been dropped now as an option.

And the VW Racing Caddy is at 230 bhp IIRC, bit more than a remap though.

That depends on the car and the accident.

and as I said before' date=' they can't prove that the car wasn't like that when you bought it.

They can if you bought it new or you post about your remap on the net.

They therefore can't decline your claim.

They can. They wont be able to refuse third party aspects of your claim , but they can refuse your claim and also go after you to recover their costs.

If you are driving a remapped car without notifiying your insurers then you are driving uninsured. If you are happy to do that then why bother with insurance at all?

They can if you bought it new or you post about your remap on the net.

Exactly. So if you didn't buy it new or post about it, you're covered. It's obviously a personal choice but insurance is expensive enough.

Don't quote me on this as I could be wrong but from past experience with insurance companies I'm fairly certain they will use the "its your responsibility to know what your driving"

They specifically ask you if it is modified when you insure it... if you don't know and just say no its not modified is that not technically your fault for not finding out??

Still sticking with my original point of if you can't afford the insurance increase don't get it done....

It's a bit like "ignorance of the law is no excuse". You might end up with someone claiming they thought their Porsche was a Punto.
