Gear change numbers

Featured Replies

If I am in "D" (drive) or "E" (eco) I don't get any numbers showing (ie 1-7 gear)

but if I am in "S" Sports mode I get 1-7.

Should I not get the gear numbers in D and E ?

D won't show any #gear, and E I never used - I actually didn't know it existed!
The only way you'll get #gear in D, is by using the steering-wheel paddles.

I think with the Octy4 Škoda decided the D stands for “you Don’t need to know” instead of Drive

😉

Ok thanks for the replies, I have just traded in a Leon and that showed the gear number in all modes

It does appear occasionally when in manual mode and it thinks that you need to go up or down accordingly.

That makes sense, and fits with the reply from @SkOmk4.

I think whenever there's a D on the cluster there won't be a number there. Using the paddles to go into "manual" mode switches it to M1, M2, M3... Sport mode is similar, S1, S2, S3 and so on. But there's never D1, D2 etc., only D.

Can this behaviour be changed using coding?

the numbers showed in D on my 2019 7 speed Leon

Various VW Group cars with DQ250 or DQ200,s had the gear indicator show D1 - D6 or D1- D7, or S1-S6 or S7 and then is coasting just go to D.

Others might show E1 - E7 when coasting.

Yeah, you've said that before, and I wasn't talking about your Leon, was I? This is the 4th gen Octavia subforum 😉

The Octavia 4 has completely different hardware and software to the 2019 Leon (and to my Octavia 3 which also shows numbers in D mode), so anything that applies to older models is interesting but irrelevant here.

I think it's same to assume that 'in their wisdom' Skoda have changed the default functionality, whether there's a coding or adaptation tweak is a good question...

That would be a Mod I'd gladly apply... plus the option of Enabling/Disabling the coasting - which I also hate.

Hi, has anyone found a way to show the number of the gear selected in D mode?

Nope, not as far as I know.

It's a pity.

Just drive i S and you’ll get your gear numbers. I found that D changes gears way too early and it is a strain on gearbox and fly wheel. And car feels much more alive.
