DSG noises

Featured Replies

I have had my Superb now for about month, in that time I have done about 5,000 miles and am pretty happy with the way it drives and its comfort.

The one thing that has been a constant since I bought the car is a transmission noise, it's a high pitched whining noise that is apparent when under load and the greater the load the more the noise.

As soon as I lift off the throttle the noise disappears, and comes back when the power is applied.

Its had gearbox oil changed at 40K and 80k, currently it is sat at 85K, the last oil that came out looked as clean as the stuff we ended up putting in the car!! we have wondered if this was changed to see if the noise would disappear prior to the car being bought by me.

My first thought was gearbox input shaft bearings, but that's calling on my experience of conventional FWD manual gearboxes, this DSG box is a bit of a dark art.

Any ideas? we have run VCDS and there are no error codes and everything appears to be running within tolerance

Sounds like a bearing. Whether it’s input shaft, output or internal to the box is another matter ☹️

We ended up replacing the gearbox with a recon unit and a new clutch pack, so much quieter and smoother now
