Front Brake Clunk (new Rotors/pads) 206tsi

Featured Replies

Hey all,

so just had some ne rotors and pads put on my 2016 Superb 206tsi, rotors were DBA Street Series Rotors and the pads were Bendix Euro + all went in fine. Now when I apply the brake first thing when I reverse it clunks from the front, im sure this is the pads as it also does it in forward motion. The pads are correct and were installed by a mechanic so im sure shims were in there but im wondering has anyone else come across this?

cheers

The only experience I’ve had like this, was in our MKI Superb, with clonking from the front brakes when the car reversed. I’d also had the front pads replaced. I think there was a spring or block of some sort which hadn’t been reinstalled which caused the caliper to move when the brake was applied, but it was most noticeable in reverse.

It's a TRW front brake system, so perhaps try using TRW brake pads.

TRW would have done a lot of R&D as it's their brake system, so should work perfectly.

It’s a common problem on the MQB platform so superb, octavia, golf.

There is a mm or 2 of play in the pads in the up/down direction and it is even apparent on genuine pads sometimes.

The solution is to either pull the springs out further to apply more force, use the pagid adhesive liners to prevent movement or you can try a different brand of pads.

It’s relatively easy (if you are careless) to install the pads with those little shiny spring things having missed the slot and been bent back at one end. That’s what I’d check first.
