2023 Mk4 Fabia Monte Carlo 1.0 TSI 110. (6 forward manual gears) showing around 38.5mpg with short hops for shopping and gym.  So far, no long motorway journeys.  The 2002 Peugeot 307 HDI 90 it replaced was giving us just over 34mpg.

My driving is mostly 55 - 60 mile an hour A roads, sometimes slower following trucks on a busy single carriageway A road. The average for a forty one mile journey that I do a couple of times a week is 62mpg with a one litre MPI. I have seen 72 mpg on that journey. I kid you not. This car is as economical on fuel as my previous Fabia 2010, 1400 TDI. That a petrol engine can equal a diesel on the same route in fuel consumption is surprising to me

We had a short break and covered more ground visiting North Wales.  On the way out we used A roads and mpg was around 57mpg.  Returning, we went mainly by motorway and the figure was 71mpg with no stopping or hold ups.  I didn't belt along at 70mph but kept up a fair average speed.  Be aware that in North Wales there are loads of 20mph zones and you can really see the way slower speeds reduce fuel consumption but there's rather a lot of stop start motoring.

20mph speed limits may be torment when driving but when you are on foot in towns the slower speeds really help with crossing roads.  I'm well past retirement age and appreciated the extra safety when on foot.  It was interesting that motorists seem to have accepted the 20mph limit.

The 20mph speed limit has meant that people no longer use crossings, they now expect drivers to give way wherever they feel like crossing.

They  (the pedestrians) no longer take responsibility for their own safety as being *their responsibility* it is all upon the driver.

Fabia mk4 - 110hp – 6 speed manual.

In city driving (start-stop system mostly deactivated) consumption is usually about 37-40 mpg.

About the same as in the city i see when travelling at highway with the cruise control set at 80 m/hour.

In country roads with relax and “eco” driving i manage the best results about 52-54 mpg.

I can’t see how it can go better than this…

All numbers based on what trip computer indicates

@fabiamk4man For clarity it is best to say that that is in the weather conditions / climate you have in Greece.

@Evolution13 Only 3 months with the Fabia and I haven't had the chance to drive in very different weather conditions. Mostly dry with temperatures of 20-30 degrees Celsius. But I don't think it will make that much of a difference.

It will make quite a bit of difference compared to regions in the UK and Summer / Winter and E10 95 ron or E5 97/99. Temperatures of 20-30*oC being something there is some of the time. Road surfaces being another thing that can be different. Best really to brim a tank and maybe see how many miles / km a car can go per litre in the likes of a city or out of. Short trips in cold weather conditions make a big difference. Then longer trips and not too hot weather might be more efficient in really quite warm weather.

Hi, at 06:00 I drove to Bridgwater from 6 miles the other side of Minehead yesterday morning it was around 7* and pouring with rain, I was following a Hinckley point bus most of the way, if anyone knows this road they will understand the avg speed as it is pretty windy, the results are below, I’m more than happy with the mpg we’ve been getting since we bought it new, it’s a mk4 Skoda Fabia 95 TSI SE Comfort , cheers Paul

WRONG – WRONG – WRONG....

In Greece we use the metric system so i have learned and become accustomed to measuring consumption in liters/100 km. When i was writing the above, knowing i was referring to UK readers, in prior i converted the consumption numbers to mpg via an online calculator.

Just yesterday quite by accident i realized that there is a huge difference between the mpg they use in the USA (and the on line calculator was using) and the mpg you are use in the UK...

That is why i was having such a hard time understanding how different the consumption numbers i read here are compared to mine...

So, my corrected to UK mpg numbers are:

-          In the city (depending on the traffic conditions and with auto start-stop system mostly deactivated) about  44-47 mpg UK

-          On highways travelling with the cruise control set around 80-83m/h (about 130-135 km/h) i see about 48-50 mpg UK.  I have seen that it can go much better with 15-20 m/h lower speed, but ...

-          So far the best consumption i manage on country roads with relaxed and "eco" driving which is around 62-64 mpg UK - and i don't see how it can go more economical than that.....

All above based on trip computer

Hoping now my consumptions numbers are making more sense than before...
