Facelift Mk3 Estate rear light replacement

Featured Replies

Having had an incident whilst my car was parked which resulted in the cover on my Driver's side rear light cluster - being a facelift vehicle, it's the part-LED version too - ending up in pieces on the ground, I duly ordered a replacement light cluster (as Škoda will only sell you a complete unit, not just a cover) from my usual dealership (given the part on its own was cheaper than my insurance excess), expecting it to simply be a case of removing the old one, swapping the bulbs into the new one and fitting it.

Rookie mistake there, as all they've supplied is the bare shell! I've managed to get most of the wiring out of the old one, but can't for the life of me work out how to extract the socket that the plug from the car's wiring connects to. Short of extreme violence (given said socket needs to remain in one piece) does anyone have an idea as to how to remove it?

If you can get a photo of the plug we can direct you better.

but chances are there is a small tab that needs releasing when the plug isn’t being pulled, then simply pull apart

Here are a few pictures of the connector in question.

Couldn't get any more detail due to the amount of plastic surrounding it, alas.

Is there anything obvious on the new lamp that shows how the plug is held in?

It may be a "one and done" fitting. If so and the original is already knackered it may just be that you'll have to carefully break the old grey housing away.

Finally solved it. The solution is to apply leverage on the "ledge" roughly half way down and it comes free.

Do you mind me asking how much you paid? I have a pre-facelift and both lights are sun damaged with tiny cracks everywhere. I want to replace them but costs from a seemingly legitimate UK site are approx £200-£230 depending on side (Skodapartsdirect) which seems massively expensive.

Try Skoda-parts who deliver to the U.K. from czech

or try lllparts

Ultimate Components on E-Bay. £150 next day delivery.               That was for the LED version that will cost you £100+  for S/H crap on e-bay

I've had a look, guessing they aren't genuine, what's the quality and fitment like?

Cant fault it in any way. That having sent back 3 **** ones from e-bay all around £100+ with 50% led's out cracked lens's, mounting tangs snapped.

Good to know, thanks. I'm always wary with patent parts, the quality always used to be naff or the fitment was poor. I have had a look and they do both for £300 which would save me £140 from genuine items. They don't appear to have the facelift lights but as mines pre-facelift Im not too worried about having to code or buy adaptors to make them work.

Oops. Forgot to check back after I sorted it out. Given mine was the facelift version with LEDs and three halogen bulbs, it was around £220 for the OEM part from Citygate Slough.

Thanks Baz, about what I was expecting. Glad you got it sorted.

Worked for me, carefully broke moulding at end and levered out

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can anyone tell me the part number for this connector, or where to get one, by any chance?

Previous owner must have ripped it off accidentally when they removed the tail light, as mine looks like this 🤦‍♂️:

Wondering if this is what I need: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/1j0972723-flat-contact-housing-6-pin-skoda-17256.html
Mine is a post facelift VRS estate with LED tail lights.

Any suggestions very much appreciated!
