  • Because they are upselling.  What is wrong with the detergents in the diesel you buy?  You could pay more and buy Premium Diesel if you wanted to.    Arnold Clark,s call centre guy offered me fuel add

  • No.

  • They  will sell / use stuff with a VW /Audi logo on it made by whoever.   They are not into reading Owners Manuals.

@dbolton  Sorry i missed where you had posted before.

That was a lot of Servicing getting done over those miles when done every 8,000 miles.

yes there was a lot of servicing, cars need clean oil, 8000 miles is not unusual for oil changes if you want your engine and turbo to last...

@dbolton  What are we talking about here, Taxis / Delivery cars doing local short trips rather than out of town longer trips?

private hire, assorted work maybe 1 airport a week on average, but just general taxi work in and around town with the occasional airport. .

Due to availability of Shell fuels in Worcestershire I now use Esso.

On my diesel engine truck when I first acquired it the tick over was erratic to say the least.

I was a real sucker to all the fuel polish adverts and chucked overtime most of the preparatory fuel cleaners.

Zero benefit re tick over but always passed the MOT emissions.

All I do now is fill the truck with super diels and the tick over is better ( not brilliant )

With my petrol Tsi Superb again I only fill with Esso 99 fuel and have never considered using fuel additive

I keep all the fuel receipts

Wow thread resurrection!

For normal gasoline applications, I never seen any meaningful advantage in additives, as written earlier by other here.

For Diesels, I have friends that have reported some problems with "stuff" growing in the fuel tank (Aliens?) and recomment something like a "fuel stabilizer", which I also have friends with boats that use it and are satisfied. But is not a "boost power" additive, I seem to understand ...

Esso 99 octane E5 is not the same formulation in all UK regions.

Mostly it is distributed by Greenery who also produce Tesco Momentum 99, but some places it is not.

(Greenergy & Royal Dutch Shell share / co own Storage & Distribution depots in the UK.)

Like E10 95 ron being a Minimum as far as octane, so is E5, and not all have 10% bio-ethanol or 5% with E5.
