Kodiaq new tyres recommendations

Featured Replies

Hi all,

It's time for me to get a new set of tyres for my Scout ; still with the factory fitted 'Pirelli Scorpion Verde' currently at 26500 miles.

I am looking for advice - Should I stick to Pirelli or go for what seems to be very much a recommended option - Michelin CrossClimate 2? or perhaps look into something like Continental Premium Contact 6?

Also any recommendations for local tyre garages in Edinburgh & the Lothians are welcomed! I was thinking of using Blackcircles to find garages nearby and then booking directly as I suspect they pay a premium to be a partner. Alternatively I was also recommended Costco as an option.

p.s. I have had a look at this topic, but would still rather double check!

Michelin own BlackCircles & ATS Euromaster and the prices can be cheaper at BlackCircles than at ATS Euromaster.  Try and see and have them fitted where suits you not how they pay the fitting and balancing.

Check Asda Tyres, Halfords Fitting Centres (Ex MCConechy,s tyre Centres.)

All that matters is the Fitted price and what tyres and where fitted suits you.

There is 'Farmer Autocare'.      (Taking us back to Sir Tom Farmer who started KwikFit before selling many decades ago.)

As toot says, you just have to shop around for a fully fitted price.  Camskill.co.uk  can often seem much cheaper but you need to then factor in delivery cost and then arrange fitting yourself ( approx £15 fully fitted per tyre ). Additionally, there's a  £60 cashback for 4 x michelin tyres on at the moment.

I used Costco in Edinburgh some years ago for all-season tyres on my Octavia. They were an absolute bargain, but that's not always true of Costco prices - depends on what promotion they're running.

There's always someone with an offer on. If you can wait a wee bitty, hold off until mid November ( black friday promotions start ).  I was sorely tempted by ATS's offer in 2022 at £780 for four fully fitted 20" cross climate 2 tyres. ( it included cashback from Michelin ).

edit:  forgot to say the supply of all-season tyres can nosedive whenever the first sign of snow appears.

Contis wear out even when the car is not moving, ;) Mine lasted for 17 000 kms, which is bit more than 10 000 miles. Best choice of course if the target is to take turns at max speeds.

Pirelly is safe choice.

Used Hankooks before, no complaints. Goodyear efficientgrip performance are good ones.

If you have 235/40 R20 then I think there is only one all season in that size

Goodyear vector 4season Gen3

For summer tyres, Pirelli Scorpion, Michelin Pilot sport 4S

There's something wrong if he does as 20" come with 235/45.   I thought the Scout came with 19" as standard?

I had bit of brainstorm yesterday thinking of 20 inch, sorry

For 235/50 R19 I would go for either of

Michelin cross climate 2 or Pirelli scorpion all season SF2

both have a Volvo spec which it's fair to say is a recommendation

I’ve been running 19” OEM summer wheels and 17” winter wheels for several years, but if I was starting from scratch I’d consider moving to All Season tyres instead. Although full winter tyres do inspire much confidence.

In fact I’ve just done that with wife’s Polo and have it booked in to local agent having ordered 4 Goodyears from Black Circles a few days ago. Being only 16” I was pleasantly surprised with the cheap-ish price with a 10% sale at weekend. I’ll be selling the OEM (noisy) Goodyear summer tyres in near future.

What did the OP decide, tyre-wise? I need new tyres for my Kodiaq in the same size. It's currently wearing 235/50 R19 Scorpion Verde though the car has a full size spare (and has a can of sealant and a pump in the boot). I'm still scratching my head about self-seal tyres as the manufacturers say "If you get puncture get the tyre replaced when you can". But, if the self-seal tyre has done its job, how would you know if you had a puncture if no pressure was lost?

I’m running two vehicles, one with Michelin Crossclimates, the other Goodyear Vector 4season Gen3’s.

Not entirely sure how it’s possible to compare tyres, I just buy the most expensive I can afford and hope for the best.

Both great picks

@ChazzyBSelf Seal tyres can be repaired by the people that know how to.

There are some that might know the seal seal tyre was punctured because they had to remove a nail / screw or whatever and it self sealed but they still had to re-inflate it a bit and reset the TPMS.
