My boss has an Audi A8 (albeit a 2.8). It's a very nice car, but despite being an expensive Audi it has had a few issues. Audi dealer servicing costs him a fortune too -I'm not sure why he takes it there....

I'd get a Porsche 911 Turbo from the 1980's. Seriously quick rear wheel drive rear engined car. Incredible handling if there's incredible skill to tame the beast!

I nearly bought a smartie about 2 weeks ago - brand new ones give the dealer about £2500 to play with as there's such a drive to shift stock.

Not bad IMHO but I wouldn't want to do so many motorway miles in one - awesome on the B roads though

The gearbox is a bit crap too :(

I'd buy a VX220 for that budget - ticks all the boxes.

As the owner of an E39 M5, I can't think of a car that does what you need (family runs, gives you the runs) any better for 25 K. I'm on my second one. Yes the Monaro is a cracking car, but the Beemer has 4 doors (better for family). And don't forget it started life as a 60 grand car. They are also very discreet if that's what appeals - Scoobys aren't. And what is amazing about the M5 is if you are not in the mood to party, it is as relaxing as any other 5 series. Have a look at bm5w.co.uk for more info. They can be pricey to run, but bought wisely you can't go wrong.
