1.0 TSI manual: difficult to pull away smoothly

Featured Replies

What I have read they introduced an anti-stall / pull away assist in the first version of the software that increased the RPM to about 1800 rpm when the clutch pedal was lifted. It is likely that this function also closed the throttle when the car reached 10 km/h to synchronize the rpm of the motor with the speed of the car which in my car corresponds to 1100 rpm. They received a lot of criticism for this function, which made it hard to “crawl” with the car and changed the function in a later version, but it seems like they forgot to update / remove the “RPM restoration / synchronization” at 10 km/h which today makes the car hard to start in a normal way without getting a “nose dive”. It also seems like it is a general problem that affects many versions of their motors.

From a business perspective I do not understand why they do not fix this issue. For me it is an easy fix and would make many people happy with their car instead of hating it. Now they are risking losing market shares and killing their brand. Audi’s slogan is “Vorsprung durch Technik” but this software is partly a gigantic leap backwards.

I will contact Audi in Germany to see what response I get.

Well it could be my last Skoda....

Regarding the drive modes, unfortunately I don't have that specced on my model.

I've just bought Fabia 4 1.0 tsi 115hp 6 speed manual.  I haven't found driving modes on mine either. DK model.

Thanks for the advice. My friend has driven the car and had no issues. Turns out it's a skill issue after all. I've been practicing adding more gas at the right moment and can now get a smooth start most of the times. It helps when you can hear the engine, the sound changes slightly throughout the process and gives you a cue when to act. I guess it'll take some more practice until it becomes muscle memory.

I'm also having trouble getting trough 1.-3. smoothly every time 🧐 I've been trying to lift clutch slower, faster, add more gas...which seems to be my best solution so far (Although I have to be careful because with my previous 69 hp i had to floor it to get going, now it makes the car fly away! My reflexes need adjustment/calibrating 😂 same with the very sensitive brake). I don't use to have this problem at all! It will take me some time to get use to, i think. *Sigh*

Hearing the engine is of my problems... I struggle hearing it because I come from a pretty noisy micro car. In the ford ka there was no doubt when to shift gears because the engine was loud and/or the car poorly isolated, and of course... 10 years with the same car.

The first couple of days I really had to rely on the Fabias gear changing guide, cause otherwise I had no clue. I rather kind of feel it than hear it at the moment. (Though I feel it's asking me to change too early around 1700-1800 maybe, and then it drops just to or below 1500, and that feels wrong and i have to change back.... Feels better to change around 2000revs or a bit above, if its correct i don't know. Never had to study the rev counter as much as now!! *Sigh*

It's getting somewhat better but today when investigating and very focused on the ACC, hence not adding gas myself, once I suddenly realized I had forgotten to change gears! I didn't even notice it 😲🥴 and it didn't warn me with sound for some reason..

Seems to be a skoda thing, glad I'm not alone, makes me feel a bit lesss "stupid" but hopefully I'll get it soon!

I have a Scala 2023. and I have the same issues.

is this problem solved? some people said to me There were several cylinder mods. Last time in 2024.11.01 Supposedly this can solve it.

Hello ,

No it's still the same , I'm just putting up with it tbh. How can you persuade the garage to replace something under warranty?

If I don't give gas it stalls, give gas and it throws you through the windscreen.

The odd occasion it's smooth. I hate junctions and having to go into 1st gear !

It is worth asking if there is an ECU update available for the car.
