Setting Timezone & Daylight Savings Time

Featured Replies

Has anyone found a way to automatically set the timezone and/or daylight savings settings?

I find frustrating that in a modern 'connected'  car this is a manual process. Even my 1990s Cavalier updated itself for summertime.

Nope. You still have to manually activate & deactivate it via infotainment system, at least I'm certain that you have to, but I haven't needed to use the car for a few days so, next time I need it I'll check. But none of my Skoda cars have.

On your previous Mk3 Octavia there was a simple VCDS/OBDeleven coding change to enable auto DST change - I've done it on both my Mk3 Octavias.

Did that and it never worked.

Strange - works great for me ⁉️

Something they probably had to disable so it wasn't as good as the audi/vw cars 😅

Yes, Clock time is set to Automatic but it’s the Timezone and DST that are manually selected. Seems crazy to me when the car knows exactly where it is (GPS) and has an active internet connection that it can’t determine the correct time for that location.

I would be equally disappointed if a car needed an internet connection to put the clock right.

Set to GPS signal the car receives the time in UTC then the user tells it where it is and when that country applies DST

How did it do it, by the day, date and year settings?

Was there a way of telling it what country the vehicle was in or did i just assume the UK and you had to adjust the time when in Europe on CET?

It could have been programmed with the UK time changes. It was a UK car after all.

Thats what I meant in the first line.

It was through the radio, with the old [now defunct?] Traffic Master info service which would give alerts of major holdups.

OK, fair point. But the car has an eSIM so it is connected to the mobile network, that alone is sufficient to set time & DST - every smartphone does it.

I checked my car earlier and it hadn't switched back to GMT from BST, it's nothing major to do, but it should do it automatically, everything with a clock in our house, bar 2 analogue wind up clocks and cooker do it themselves

But that requires a subscription, i would not want to be paying to set the clock.

GPS is sufficient - but VAG have a long history of getting clock setting wrong, e.g. on the B7 Audi A4 even if you have sat nav fitted it ignored the GPS time when setting the time on the instruments and even offered the option to set the time on the sat nav from the (wrong time) on the instruments!

But the eSIM is used for the SOS calling which doesn’t need a subscription.

Like you, I wouldn’t want to pay just to set the clock, but the tech is there built in so why not use a common algorithm to improve the customer experience?

Anyway, it seems that currently there is no way to automate setting timezone or DST. C’est la vie

I changed the below parameter on SK Mk4 MY22 and the clock(in both VC and and MIB3) is switching automatically (at least in Romania):
Control unit: 5F Multimedia - Adaptation
Summertime-automatic: Europe

Tried that setting (or very

similar) last time on the last car and that didn't work either. ☹️

Can confirm, always have to go manually toggle summer time on or off, even with latest software.

Pretty annoying, even my old Renault Clio from 2013 did it automatically.
